Black Forest Labs has officially released Flux 3 Image, the image-generation component of its broader Flux 3 model family. The new model introduces a highly anticipated capability: multi-step editing that targets specific areas of an image while leaving the rest of the composition completely untouched. In addition to this selective editing feature, the model supports standard text-to-image generation, image-to-image transformations, high-quality text rendering, and advanced photorealism.

For creators and developers, Flux 3 Image offers robust tools to control the generation process. Users can compose complex scenes using bounding boxes to position elements precisely. The model also supports the inclusion of up to ten reference images to guide the style or subject matter, and it can generate high-resolution outputs of up to 4K. These features give practitioners unprecedented control over layout and detail, solving a common pain point where minor edits previously forced a complete regeneration of the entire image.

Black Forest Labs is offering several pathways to access the new technology. A free demo is currently available, and the company is offering a 50 percent discount on API access through October 8. For enterprise users, commercial weights are available for licensing, allowing organizations to run and fine-tune Flux 3 Image on their own private infrastructure. Additionally, the company plans to release an open-weight version of the model in the coming weeks. This launch intensifies competition in the open-weights space, coming shortly after Ideogram announced its own editing-focused Ideogram 4.5 model, which is also slated for an open-weights release soon.
