ByteDance Launches Dramagic AI Video Platform

ByteDance has officially released Dramagic, a comprehensive artificial intelligence platform designed to streamline the production of short dramas and videos from initial script to final screen. Offered through BytePlus, the company's enterprise division, the tool manages the entire creative pipeline. It provides automated script analysis, character creation, storyboarding, and video previews. To facilitate teamwork, the platform supports real-time multi-user collaboration and features built-in consistency checks to maintain visual and narrative quality throughout the production process.

The introduction of Dramagic comes amid an explosive surge in short-form digital content, particularly in China. According to data from the China Netcasting Services Association, approximately 128,000 short dramas were published in the country during the first quarter of 2026 alone. This figure represents three times the total volume recorded for the entirety of the previous year. Remarkably, 95 percent of these newly published dramas were generated using artificial intelligence tools.

For video producers and industry practitioners, the financial implications of this shift are profound. Shen Yang, a professor at Tsinghua University, estimates that producing one minute of AI-generated video costs between $90 and $120. This rate represents roughly one-tenth of traditional video production costs, making rapid content creation highly accessible to smaller studios and independent creators.

However, this rapid automation presents significant challenges for the creative workforce. While the short drama industry directly employs 690,000 people, the rise of platforms like Dramagic has sparked labor concerns. Reports indicate that some performers are being forced to hand over their voice and likeness rights to AI systems before facing layoffs, highlighting the growing tension between cost-saving automation and human talent preservation.
