Fenix Flexin Admits Using Treblo AI to Make Rubberz

Los Angeles rapper Fenix Flexin has walked back his previous denials, seemingly admitting to using artificial intelligence to create his 80s synth-pop track "Rubberz." The shift in stance follows public pressure from producer Medasin, who posted videos asserting that the song was generated using an AI tool called Treblo, which was formerly known as Sonauto. To back up these claims, Treblo even released its own AI detector, which flagged "Rubberz" as a product of its platform.

Fenix addressed the controversy on Instagram in response to a comment about fellow artist Tyga, who recently acknowledged relying on AI for his own 80s-influenced album, "$tarface." In his reply, Fenix claimed he "never said I didn’t use AI" and argued that the technology simply had nothing to do with his actual recording process. He added that he was unfamiliar with the application until after the track was mixed and listeners began commenting on it. This statement directly contradicts his previous appearance on Hot 97's "Mornings With Mero," where he told interviewer Kazeem Famuyide that there was "no AI on it."

Before this pivot, Fenix and his production team went to great lengths to hide the song's AI origins. They shared video clips of what they claimed were active recording sessions, insisted the track was crafted by two humans in a living room using Pro Tools, autotune, and reverb, and defended clips where Fenix appeared to be lip-syncing.

For music industry practitioners, this situation underscores the rapidly evolving landscape of creative transparency. As AI detection tools like Treblo's become more sophisticated, hiding the use of generative software is becoming increasingly difficult for artists. Fenix's defense that there is "nothing wrong w using new technology" suggests a broader cultural shift where creators may eventually embrace AI as a standard production tool rather than a closely guarded secret.
