Google has officially released Google Pics, a creative design and image manipulation application integrated directly into Google Workspace. Powered by Google's Gemini and the Nano Banana generative AI models, the new tool aims to streamline the creation of business graphics. By offering precise, prompt-based control over image generation, the application allows users to select specific objects or text elements within an image and describe desired modifications, bypassing the unpredictable results often associated with standard AI chatbots.

The application is launching as a standalone Workspace tool and is also integrated into Google Docs and Slides, with a rollout to Google Drive scheduled for the coming weeks. Within these integrations, users can select any document or slideshow image to access the full suite of editing tools. Google Pics supports generating images from scratch, modifying individual objects, and translating or reformatting text. Additionally, users can upscale their creations to 2K or 4K resolutions, crop images for various digital and print formats, and collaborate on designs in real time with teammates.

With these capabilities, Google Pics positions itself as a direct competitor to established creative platforms like Canva and Adobe Express. Google designed the tool to eliminate the friction of switching between multiple applications for basic design tasks. According to the company, the goal is to prevent users from "feeling like you need to be a graphic designer" to produce high-quality visual assets for presentations, campaigns, and product storytelling.

First introduced to testers following the Google I/O conference in May, Google Pics is now rolling out to a wide range of customers. The tool is available to Workspace subscribers on Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus plans. It is also accessible to users on Google AI Pro and Ultra personal plans, as well as those on the Google AI Pro for Education plan.
