A leaked initial public offering prospectus from artificial intelligence developer Anthropic has exposed the massive financial scale of the generative AI race. According to details reported by Reuters, the company saw its revenue climb twelvefold to nearly $4.6 billion in 2025. However, this growth came with an operating loss of $8.06 billion and a staggering net loss of nearly $42 billion, which included roughly $34 billion in non-cash accounting charges tied to its previous financing rounds.

The most eye-catching figure in the prospectus is a massive $518 billion commitment for future cloud, computing, and infrastructure obligations. Despite these heavy expenses, Anthropic is actively pushing toward a public debut to beat rival OpenAI to the market. The company could launch its IPO as early as October, potentially raising up to $100 billion, though other estimates suggest a timeline of six to 12 months. Meanwhile, OpenAI, which filed confidentially in June, is reportedly targeting an IPO in early 2027.

Anthropic's aggressive push contrasts with other tech firms navigating the current public markets. Smart ring manufacturer Oura recently postponed its planned IPO of 50 million shares priced between $40 and $44, which would have raised $2.2 billion, citing market uncertainty. Conversely, other AI-adjacent firms are moving forward. Nvidia-backed AI cloud provider Nscale recently filed for a U.S. listing, reporting $140.6 million in first-half revenue alongside a $1.02 billion net loss, while data center operator Switch is considering a fourth-quarter IPO that could raise up to $10 billion.

For AI practitioners and enterprise developers, these disclosures underscore the extreme capital requirements needed to sustain frontier model development. The $518 billion infrastructure bill demonstrates that building and deploying advanced AI is increasingly a game of massive infrastructure scale. While this guarantees substantial computing capacity for future model training, it also signals that developers will face continued pressure to monetize their applications quickly to justify these unprecedented capital expenditures.
