Perplexity Adds MiniMax and Seedance Video to Computer

Perplexity has expanded the capabilities of its agentic workspace, Computer, by integrating two new video generation models: MiniMax H3 and ByteDance Seedance 2.5. This update allows users to generate promotional clips, product demonstrations, and social media videos directly within an ongoing conversational thread. The new models join Google Veo 3.1 in Perplexity's video lineup, which is orchestrated alongside other specialized models like Opus 4.6 for reasoning, Gemini for deep research, and Nano Banana for image generation.

The two newly added models serve different production needs. MiniMax H3 generates 5 to 15 seconds of video at native 2K resolution and 24 frames per second, complete with stereo audio, dialogue, and sound effects in a single pass. It also features a reference system to maintain visual consistency for characters and scenes. Meanwhile, Seedance 2.5 supports longer sequences, generating up to 30-second clips in a single pass that can be extended further to minimize continuity issues. Access to these features is currently limited to paid subscribers on the $20 per month Pro plan and the $200 per month Max plan, though Perplexity has not yet disclosed specific generation quotas or released a dedicated video API.

For AI practitioners and marketers, this integration simplifies the creative workflow by eliminating the need to jump between separate tools for research, copywriting, and video production. Computer acts as an orchestration layer that can ingest local Mac files, Microsoft 365 documents, and web data via its Comet browser interface, then draft scripts and generate corresponding video assets in one continuous thread. While specialized video platforms still hold an advantage for professional editors requiring advanced timeline and color controls, Perplexity's update intensifies competition for standalone tools like Runway and Kling by making video generation a standard, highly accessible component of general-purpose AI agents.
