Runway Launches MCP Tool to Generate Video Inside Claude
Runway has launched a Model Context Protocol connector that allows Claude Opus 5.5 and other AI agents to generate images and videos directly within their chat interfaces.

Runway has released a hosted Model Context Protocol (MCP) connector, enabling users to trigger its media generation stack directly inside conversational AI interfaces. The integration works natively with Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5, as well as other popular developer tools and assistants including ChatGPT, Cursor, Replit, and Grok Bot. To install the connector on Claude Desktop, developers can run the command claude mcp add --transport http runway https://mcp.runwayml.com/mcp to link the remote server.
The connector acts at the client's tool layer, allowing an agent to autonomously select, prompt, and monitor media generation tasks. Supported models routed through the endpoint include Gen-4.5, Gen-4 Turbo, Seedance 2.5, Kling 3.0, and Veo 3.1 for video and image generation, alongside Gen-4 Image, GPT Image 2, and Nano Banana Pro. Instead of managing API keys, users authenticate via an OAuth flow that links the client directly to their Runway account, billing generations directly to their existing Runway credits.
For creative and development teams, this integration consolidates fragmented workflows. Instead of manually downloading and uploading assets between platforms, a practitioner can instruct an agent to read a product brief, draft a shot list, and generate matching launch assets in a single conversation. The agent can handle iterative revisions, such as turning a product image into multiple consistent shots, while the final outputs are automatically saved to the user's central Runway library for team auditing and campaign attribution.
However, practitioners must still manage the inherent challenges of agentic workflows. Because video generation times vary and jobs can occasionally time out, developers need to implement robust error handling and retries. Additionally, because repeated requests can produce non-deterministic frames and motion, and large batches can quickly deplete Runway credits, setting up manual confirmation steps before executing paid generation calls remains a crucial safeguard.
