  • Everything announced at Summer Game Fest 2025

Summer truly begins today: Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest is back for its 2025 edition. The video game showcase has only grown in the past few years, filling a void left behind by E3’s demise. It is now the summer’s must watch gaming event as it’s always packed with new announcements. This year’s show should be another big one, as Keighley will take the stage for two full hours to reveal what’s coming for gamers later this year and beyond.

What can you expect to see this year? Mafia: The Old Country will play a big role in the show, and we have to imagine that Death Stranding 2: On The Beach pops up as well ahead of its release later this month. Other upcoming 2025 games like Borderlands 4 and Dying Light: The Beast could show up too, but much of this year’s event is shrouded in mystery. Could we see Hollow Knight: Silksong? Will Capcom shock us with Resident Evil 9? And will the Nintendo Switch 2 get a big moment on stage? Follow along with us live as we break down every announcement right here.

  • Mafia: The Old Country has an official release date and a new trailer

If you’re still mourning the GTA 6 delay, Mafia: The Old Country is here to fill the void. Today, 2K and Hangar 13 gave an official release date of August 8, 2025 and dropped a new gameplay trailer that shows the gritty, bloody criminal underworld of Sicily like never before. There’s also a new Developer Insights video that gives you a behind-the-scenes look at what went into the development of the latest Mafia entry.

The latest trailers give us a better idea of the gameplay, showing a combination of stealth, gunplay, and a car chase in old-school vehicles. Players have a variety of options on how to approach a situation; even if stealth might be the best way in one scenario, you can quickly swap to a guns-blazing approach if things go sideways.

The Developer Insights video also suggests that The Old Country won’t require a huge time commitment. “We think there’s a large audience for compelling stories that don’t require massive time commitments,” said 2K President David Ismailer. “We’re excited to offer a game like Mafia: The Old Country in our portfolio, and to provide a linear highly-polished narrative experience that can easily complement the other more persistent games our players also love and engage with on a more consistent basis.”

The Old Country is described as “brutal and grounded in all the best ways.” It’s not open world; instead, the game is a more linear, tightly-crafted narrative that takes the player through a story that would be right at home in a classic mob movie. “Authenticity and immersion are key,” says game director Alex Cox. “The best crime stories have an unforgettable twist, and this game’s no exception. The players are in for a treat.”

Mafia: The Old Country will be available in both Standard and Deluxe Editions, and both are available for preorder starting today. The Standard edition will be available for $50, while the Deluxe Edition is $60 and includes numerous cosmetic upgrades, extra items, and a digital artbook.

  • Steam leaked Mafia 4’s release date, and it’s just around the corner

Mafia: The Old Country, the next entry in the long-running franchise, was due out this year — and now Steam has accidentally revealed a potential release date. According to the game’s Steam page, it will launch on August 8. The game is also set to release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series on the same day. Of course, the Steam page doesn’t list that information now — it was quickly removed — but eagle-eyed fans caught the error.

While anything short of an official announcement is suspect, information coming from Steam can usually be trusted. Developer Hanger 13 originally planned to announce the release at PAX East in early May. That said, August is still several months away, and the May 8 event is set to “debut a new Gameplay Trailer and offer a rare behind-the-scenes look at the past, present, and future of this storied franchise.”

The latest Mafia title is more of a prequel. It takes players back to 1900s Sicily to a dangerous and brutal era, to the beginnings of the Cosa Nostra. The Steam page reads, “Uncover the origins of organized crime in Mafia: The Old Country, a gritty mob story set in the brutal underworld of 1900s Sicily. Fight to survive as Enzo Favara and prove your worth to the Cosa Nostra in this immersive third-person action-adventure.”

Described as playing a classic mob movie, Mafia: The Old Country will be ideal for diehard fans of The Godfather and Scarface. And if the leaked release date is correct, you won’t have to wait too long.

The date is also ideal because it provides a gap between this game and other major titles like Grand Theft Auto 6. You should have plenty of time to experience all that Sicily’s underworld has to offer before diving into a more modern — but no less dangerous — underworld when GTA 6 hits shelves. Make sure to tune in on May 8 to find out more about what to expect.
