  • Even the iOS 19 leakers can’t agree on what the next iPhone update will look like

Front Page Tech, the YouTube channel behind some of the most widely discussed iOS 19 leaks, has posted a new video showing off even more renders of the upcoming OS redesign. The last renders they posted a couple of weeks ago prompted Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman to take to X and cast doubt on their accuracy — a post that he has now reposted in response to the newest video.

FPT’s new video starts with host John Prosser recapping the situation — he claims that they were the first people to report on the big iOS 19 redesign in January, with Gurman’s first comments coming a full 52 days later.

He also appears to be less than impressed with Gurman calling out his leaks as “fake” — though it’s worth pointing out that Gurman’s X post didn’t actually use the word “fake.” Instead, he said the renders seemed to be based on “very old builds” and weren’t “representative” of what we’ll see at WWDC 2025.

Perhaps Prosser’s use of language in this new video is part of the reason Gurman chose to repost his initial comment rather than write something new. While you can question intent in any situation, it is true that the phrasing Gurman used was objectively more polite and professional than Prosser makes out in the video. He even goes out of his way to defend the act of creating mockups in general, saying they’re “always exciting for Apple watchers.”

Either way, it’s worth looking at Prosser’s new renders even if Gurman isn’t a fan — we can’t rely entirely on one person for all of our Apple leaks.

The biggest visual change people are expecting from this redesign is circlular app icons. This is mostly because the new design has been likened to visionOS, which also has circular icons. In this latest video Prosser confirms that he too expects the icons to change — but he hasn’t actually seen any fully circular examples.

Instead, he has seen squircles — icons with much rounder corners than we have now but aren’t full circles. He says he doesn’t know if these are the final design but they are the only thing he has seen personally.

As for the “glass” or “transparent” look people have been talking about, Prosser says he has seen some elements, such as the flashlight icon, shimmering as the user moves the device.

Other small changes include an updated TabView at the bottom of Apple’s native apps and slightly reshaped toggles in the Settings app. Interestingly, Prosser’s personal conclusion from what he has seen is that though things look a bit different, it’s not actually much of an overhaul. This is a surprising take to hear since all of the reports around iOS 19 have focused on just how different it will look.

Since all the visuals in the video are recreated renders, we have no way of knowing exactly what Prosser has seen, and his sources are naturally also confidential.

At this point, while WWDC is still months away, there’s not much we can do other than decide who we want to believe the most. Prosser says the builds he’s seen are up to date, Gurman implies with his repost that they are not. Choose your side, I guess!

Gurman is definitely right about one thing, however: it really is exciting to see these mockups — especially when they trigger an all-out war between Apple leakers.

  • Apple “would rather not attach it’s brand” to TikTok, Gurman says

After Trump’s recent 75-day extension to the TikTok ban, the video-based social media app has once again become the focus of wild speculation and discussion. In spite of that, Apple analyst Mark Gurman says the company has no intention of purchasing or even investing in TikTok. Potential suitors include names like Oracle, AppLovin, and even YouTube personality Mr. Beast. The idea that Apple might get involved was tossed around in the early days of the TikTok, but it was all based in rumor.

“There is no obvious scenario in which Apple gets involved in TikTok, whether that’s an investment, full-blown acquisition or something else,” Gurman writes in his Power On! newsletter. “Apple would rather not attach its brand to a contentious social media entity.” Apple has already been the subject of media focus over the possibility of massive price hikes due to the recent tariffs, and the phone giant seems eager to avoid any further unwanted attention from the press.

The subject of TikTok has become largely a political one, but Gurman says that isn’t even enough to prompt Apple’s involvement. “Of course, striking a Trump-friendly deal might help build a stronger relationship with the current administration, and owning TikTok would certainly get more teens on the Apple platform. But — no — this will not happen, so check it off your wish list, if it’s even on there to begin with. The closest Apple will get to TikTok is letting it run on its App Store.”

While TikTok is arguably one of the most social media apps on the web, other platforms have begun to prepare for the possibility of its departure. Substack recently added a scrollable, TikTok-style video feed, and alternatives like RedNote are still available, though they have fallen in popularity since TikTok returned to domestic app stores.

  • Apple might be working on two top secret monitors, and that could be big news for Mac users

If you’re in the market for one of the best monitors and are leaning towards an Apple-branded product, you’ve got two options right now: the Studio Display and the Pro Display XDR. Yet while these are both excellent monitors in their own right, both of them have their problems — but that might all be about to change.

That’s because a new rumor has claimed that Apple is secretly working on two new monitors. That means there’s a chance the company’s entire monitor range could be refreshed, which would be great news for creatives and professional users.

    Updates are needed

The Studio Display is a solid option for most creatives thanks to its 5K resolution, impressive color accuracy and nano-texture glass option. But it’s still a long way behind the Pro Display XDR in a few areas: its 600 nits of brightness is far less than the XDR’s 1,600 nits, and it comes with a lower resolution, smaller frame, and fewer ergonomic adjustment options.

Yet the Pro Display XDR has its own problems. For one thing, its starting price of $4,999 makes it incredibly expensive piece of kit. That price doesn’t even include a stand, which is a $999 optional extra.

But the real problem is that it hasn’t been updated since 2019, making some of its technologies feel quite outdated considering the sky-high price you pay for it. You won’t find either OLED or mini-LED tech here, which makes it far less appealing when compared to its rivals.

    Two are better than one

Now, though, Apple could be looking to fix that. It’s previously been reported that Apple is developing a new Studio Display that could launch at some point in the next 12 months or so. Now, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter suggests that Apple has another trick up its sleeve.

According to the report, Apple is actually working on two new monitors, not just one. One possibility is that Apple is simply testing two configurations of the Studio Display and will just launch the one it thinks is best.

But it might also be that Apple is actually working on a new Pro Display XDR to replace the ageing model from 2019. Either that, or the second monitor could perhaps be a higher-end screen branded as a Studio Display. Regardless, this is an idea that will surely excite Apple fans starved of top-tier standalone displays made by the company.

Gurman hasn’t shared any specifics regarding this second monitor — we don’t even know if it will be a Studio Display or a Pro Display XDR, never mind what its specs might be. That means we should look at the report with a skeptical eye until further details emerge.

But a Pro Display XDR refresh would be great news for creative pros who need a top-of-the-line device that goes beyond what the Studio Display offers. If that is indeed what’s being discussed in the Power On newsletter, there could be plenty to look forward to.

    Welcome news

Gurman’s report was light on details not just when it comes to the monitor’s specifications — it also made no mention of its potential release date. While Gurman believes the Studio Display update will launch “at the end of this year or early next year,” he stopped short of giving a timeframe for the other screen.

A new Mac Pro is expected later this year, but I’d be surprised if this rumored monitor launched alongside it. After all, this is pretty much the first we’ve heard of the display, whereas the Mac Pro has been rumored for months. You’d think we would have heard more about the screen by now if it really was close to launching.

Given the niche nature of the Mac Pro and the low numbers of the display Apple would likely sell, the company is probably in no hurry anyway.

Regardless of the monitor’s projected release date, I hope the rumors prove to be true. An updated Pro Display XDR would give demanding users another option for their workstations and would showcase Apple’s commitment to professional customers. That would be further backed up by the refreshed Mac Pro, and the two devices combined could last users years into the future.

Given the tentative nature of Gurman’s report, I doubt we’ll be seeing the new monitor any time soon. But the suggestion that Apple could be planning to upgrade the Pro Display XDR after almost six years of silence will be welcome news to many a Mac user.
