  • 3 great free movies to stream this weekend (May 30-June 1)

Instead of enjoying the unofficial start to summer, many people flocked to the movie theater to enjoy new offerings like Lilo & Stitch and Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning. These two movies, along with holdovers like Final Destination Bloodlines, powered the box office to a record-setting Memorial Day weekend.

The box office should continue to thrive with the addition of Karate Kid: Legends this weekend. One of our free movies to stream this weekend comes from the Karate Kid franchise. Karate Kid Part III and more movies can be found on FAST services, a free streaming service that doesn’t cost a dime.

We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+.

The Karate Kid Part III (1989)

Before Karate Kid: Legends, the last time Macchio played Daniel LaRusso in a feature film was The Karate Kid Part III. After returning to Los Angeles after a trip to Okinawa, Daniel moves in with Mr. Miyagi (Noriyuki “Pat” Morita), and the two open a bonsai shop. Daniel has no interest in fighting, but he’s forced to display aggression after the arrival of Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith), a shady businessman with a dark past.

Silver’s friend is disgraced sensei John Kreese (Martin Kove), and he plans to exact his revenge by driving a wedge between Daniel and Miyagi. It all culminates with the All-Valley Tournament, where Daniel must take on the ruthless Mike Barnes (Sean Kanan). Part III is a good refresher for the later seasons of Cobra Kai.

Stream The Karate Kid Part III on Tubi.

    Jerry Maguire (1996)

The two characters that have defined Tom Cruise’s career are Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible and Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in Top Gun. Jerry Maguire has a legitimate claim for the third most recognizable character in Cruise’s filmography. Directed by Cameron Crowe, Jerry Maguire stars Cruise as the titular protagonist, a passionate sports agent who starts his own management firm after being fired.

Life on his own isn’t easy for Jerry, who has little money and only one employee: Dorothy Boyd (Renee Zellweger). All Jerry has is one client, football player Rod Ridwell (Cuba Gooding Jr.), who begs his agent to show him the money. Jerry Maguire is a showcase for all the best aspects of Cruise — charisma, looks, emotion, and talent. It’s the role that should have won him his first Oscar.

    Dog (2022)

Who doesn’t love good boys and girls? Channing Tatum teamed with a canine friend for the heartfelt Dog, a road trip comedy he directed with Reid Carolin. Former U.S. Army Ranger Jackson Briggs (Tatum) faces his toughest adversary to date: Lulu, an aggressive female Belgian Malinois. Lulu is the former military dog of Briggs’ late comrade.

Briggs and Lulu must travel down the West Coast and get to a funeral on time. The trip doesn’t go according to plan, and multiple setbacks occur. Over time, Briggs and Lulu realize they’re not so different from each other. Both are suffering and need help, something they can provide for each other if they’re willing to open up.

The Final Destination movies are back in the cultural zeitgeist thanks to the success of Final Destination Bloodlines. The Final Destination movies occupy five of the spots in HBO Max’s top 10. Expect Bloodlines to reach the same heights of popularity once it hits the streamer.

Luckily for cinephiles, there are more options on HBO Max besides entries from the iconic horror franchise. One underrated movie to stream is Magic Mike’s Last Dance, the final film in the adult dancing trilogy. Find out how to watch Last Dance and two other movies below.

We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+.

    Magic Mike’s Last Dance (2023)

Magic Mike’s Last Dance was originally conceived as a streaming original. However, Mike Lane’s final bow was worthy of the big screen, so Warner Bros. gave it a theatrical release. After leaving the stage, Mike Lane (Channing Tatum) finds himself broke without a job thanks to a business deal gone wrong.

While working as a bartender in Florida, Mike gets a lifeline from Max (Salma Hayek Pinault), a wealthy socialite who hires the former stripper to work as a choreographer for a play in London. As hard as he tries to break away from dancing, Mike keeps coming back to the stage. It’s his destiny, but in Last Dance, Mike wants to write his own rules in this fitting end to an underrated trilogy.

Stream Magic Mike’s Last Dance on Max.

Belichick & Saban: The Art of Coaching (2019)

Bill Belichick is one of the five greatest coaches in NFL history. The same can be said for Nick Saban in college football. Belichick and Saban have combined to win over a dozen Super Bowls and national championships. You would think these two alphas are competitors on different sides. It turns out that Belichick and Saban have been close friends for over 40 years.

Known for being private and tight-lipped about their personal lives, Belichick & Saban: The Art of Coaching is an all-access look into the duo’s relationship and the coaching principles that have led to success. Want to know the secret behind these two titans? Watch the documentary, and you might learn a thing or two.

Stream Belichick & Saban: The Art of Coaching on Max.

    Sweethearts (2024)

Long-distance relationships are a tale as old as time for many college freshmen. In Sweethearts, best friends Ben (Nico Hiraga) and Jamie (Kiernan Shipka) are both dating their respective high school sweethearts. During their first semester, the two friends agree to break up with their significant others over Thanksgiving.

The night before Thanksgiving, Ben and Jamie go out to a party in their hometown, which leads to a chaotic night of hijinks, regrets, and revelations. Plus, there might be a little romance sprinkled at certain moments. Sweethearts is a warm, effective movie about the importance of friendship. It also perfectly captures the anxiety that many young people face when returning home for the first time from college.

  • Check out this great movie before it leaves Amazon Prime Video next week (May 2025)

Few directors went on a more impressive run through the late 1990s and early 2000s than Steven Soderbergh. In addition to winning the Oscar for Best Director and helming Ocean’s Eleven, Soderbergh made several smaller movies that have stood the test of time.

The greatest example is 1998’s Out of Sight, a charming thriller starring George Clooney as a bank robber who finds himself in a hugely flirtatious relationship with Jennifer Lopez’s Karen Sisco, a federal marshal looking to arrest him. Here are three reasons Out of Sight still hits more than 25 years later.

Lopez and Clooney have remarkable chemistry

Although Out of Sight has elements of a great action movie, it is first and foremost a love story that heavily relies on the chemistry between Clooney and Lopez. Thankfully, both actors are more than up to the task. Clooney is playing exactly the kind of character you’d expect — a charming, slightly sleazy guy who is smarter than he lets on.

Meanwhile, Lopez plays Sisco tough, but she’s charmed by Clooney’s thief long before she’s willing to admit that to herself. Every scene they share is electric, the kind of onscreen chemistry that almost leaves the viewer tingling as they watch it.

    The supporting cast is excellent

Although Clooney and Lopez deserve a lot of credit for the work they do here, Soderbergh assembled an incredible supporting cast to surround them. We’ve got Ving Rhames in his prime, a frazzled Steve Zahn, as well as Dennis Farina, Albert Brooks, and, maybe most importantly, Don Cheadle.

On top of feeling like a cast filled with people who you might see on the street, the chemistry between every member of the cast is exceptional. Out of Sight was not the kind of movie that was destined to top the box office, but it’s filled with recognizable faces anyway.

Soderbergh knows exactly what he’s doing

In the past decade, Soderbergh has spent most of his time experimenting with different kinds of storytelling, and more power to him. In the 1990s and 2000s, though, there was no one more capable of combining action, comedy, and romance to deliver something utterly satisfying.

That’s exactly what he does with Out of Sight, a movie that is not about anything particularly complicated or emotional. Nevertheless, it’s such an utterly satisfying movie and one that knows exactly how to achieve a perfect tonal balance. After watching, you feel like it’s a masterpiece.

You can watch Out of Sight on Amazon Prime Video.

  • 5 movies leaving Netflix in May 2025 you have to watch now

May belongs to Vince Vaughn and the grandmothers. Nonnas, which premiered on May 9, has become a hit on Netflix and remains in the top 10 most popular movies list. From the kitchen to the football field, Untold: The Fall of Favre is a fascinating look into two notorious scandals involving Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre.

Nonnas and The Fall of Favre will remain on the streamer when the calendar changes from May to June. Unfortunately, these five movies are departing the service. One of them is Batman Begins, the first movie in the spectacular Dark Knight trilogy. Check out the rest of the picks below.

We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+.

    Batman Begins (2005)

In 2025, Christopher Nolan is the top filmmaker in Hollywood concerning power, notoriety, and recognition. 20 years ago, Nolan did not have the same juice he has now. However, Batman Begins is arguably the movie that changed his career. The previous Batman movies treated Bruce Wayne like a comic book character. Nolan crafted a more grounded and nuanced version of the character, starting with a gritty origin story in Batman Begins.

After years of training and traveling globally, Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) returns to Gotham City and becomes Batman, the masked vigilante intent on ridding the city of crime. Batman’s foes include his former mentor, Henri Ducard (Liam Neeson), and Scarecrow (Cillian Murphy), two men who believe Gotham isn’t worth saving. After watching Batman Begins, stream The Dark Knight and Batman Begins, which also leave at the end of the month.

    Stream Batman Begins on Netflix.

    Den of Thieves (2018)

What a comeback year it’s been for Den of Thieves. The cult classic’s popularity led to a sequel, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, which premiered in January. Plus, a third movie is now in the works. However, these sequels would not have been possible without the original from 2018. Written and directed by Christian Gudegast, Den of Thieves is a heist film set in Los Angeles that pits the cops against the robbers.

The lines are blurred as neither side is good nor evil. The police are led by Big Nick O’Brien (Gerard Butler), a renegade cop who frequently breaks the law to apprehend the enemy. The outlaws’ leader is Ray Merrimen (Pablo Schreiber), a former Marine and mastermind of a heist crew. Merrimen’s group plans to hit the Federal Reserve Bank, and Big Nick plans to stop it. It’s going to get loud, violent, and chaotic once these two sides battle.

Stream Den of Thieves on Netflix.

    Pride & Prejudice (2005)

“You have bewitched me, body and soul, and I love you.” Jane Austen fans will recognize that iconic line from Joe Wright’s terrific adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. In the English countryside live the five Bennet sisters: Jane (Rosamund Pike), Elizabeth (Kiera Knightley), Mary (Talulah Riley), Kitty (Carey Mulligan), and Lydia (Jena Malone). The girls have been pressured by their father to find a suitable husband, particularly a wealthy one.

The free-spirited Elizabeth has no plans to marry for money and will hold out for love. Could that man be Mr. Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen)? Good luck not falling in love with the will-they-won’t-they dilemma between Elizabeth and Darcy.

Stream Pride & Prejudice on Netflix.

    GoodFellas (1990)

Martin Scorsese’s greatest movie is about to leave Netflix, which is a crime against humanity. The late Ray Liotta plays Henry Hill, a Brooklyn teenager who advances within the ranks of the Mafia to become one of its top lieutenants. While working for the mafia, Henry becomes closely associated with Jimmy Conway (Robert De Niro), an Irish-American gangster, and Tommy DeVito (Joe Pesci), a fiery criminal.

The trio reaps the rewards of being in the mafia — money, drugs, and power. These items also lead to their demise. The brilliance of Goodfellas is how Scorsese divides the story into two halves. The first half glamorizes the mafia lifestyle, while the second half explores the dark consequences of being a gangster. Describing Goodfellas as a masterpiece does not do it justice.

    Stream Goodfellas on Netflix.

    Two Weeks Notice (2002)

Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant starring in Two Weeks Notice is equivalent to Captain America and Iron Man joining the Avengers. Bullock and Grant became two of the ’90s biggest names, especially in rom-coms. The stars aligned in Two Weeks Notice, Marc Lawrence’s take on the opposites attract trope. Lawyer Lucy Kelson (Sandra Bullock) will do whatever it takes to protect the environment. Billionaire George Wade (Hugh Grant) only cares about himself and his money.

Lucy works for George after he promises to save a community center. At first, oil and water are a better mix than Lucy and George. Over time, the duo come to appreciate one another’s company and gain feelings. Even with a predictable ending, Two Weeks Notice will satisfy anyone who loves on-screen chemistry between the leads.

  • 3 underrated Netflix movies you should watch this weekend (May 23-25)

Netflix is stacked with interesting movies, but they’re often not the easiest to find. Netflix’s algorithm might claim to understand your tastes, but does it? At times, it can feel like the streaming service hides the best stuff from you.

That’s where we come in. We’ve pulled together a list of three great Netflix movies that are well worth watching this weekend. Whether you’re looking for something scary or profound, this list should have you covered.

Need more recommendations? We also have guides to the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+.

    The Outrun (2024)

Saoirse Ronan is one of the greatest actresses of her generation, and The Outrun is all the proof you need. The movie follows a young girl who flames out of life in London and then returns home to her small Scottish town to deal with her alcohol addiction. As she comes to terms with her sober life and her family, she also forges a new connection to the natural beauty around her.

Ronan elevates what could be a fairly standard addiction drama into something far more fascinating than that, in part because she seems to understand all the ways her character is both fascinating and frustrating.

You can watch The Outrun on Netflix.

    Lion (2016)

A fascinating, heartbreaking true story, Lion follows a young boy who gets lost thousands of miles from home in India after staying on a train too long. As he struggles to survive on the streets of Kolkata, he’s eventually adopted by a couple from Australia.

Then, 25 years later, he (Dev Patel) uses Google Earth to find his way back to the town he’s from and reunite with the family he left behind. Lion is uplifting and heartbreaking in equal measure. Most crucially, it’s a story in which everyone tries their best to help those around them, even as they find themselves approaching the limits of what they can do.

You can watch Lion on Netflix.

    Talk to Me (2022)

A smart, genuinely original horror film, Talk to Me follows a group of teenagers who discover a hand that allows them to commune with the dead. What starts as a party game eventually becomes something much more genuinely horrific, as they realize just what kind of power they’ve been dealing with.

Anchored by a mostly unknown young cast filled with excellent actors and some fascinating visuals, Talk to Me feels like the rare horror movie that isn’t just trying to ape something that came before it. It was a major phenomenon among horror fans, and with good reason.

You can watch Talk to Me on Netflix.

  • 3 great free movies to stream this weekend (May 23-25)

Death still has friends at the theater. Final Destination Bloodlines, the franchise’s first entry since 2011, ruled the box office with a $51 million domestic opening. Thanks to good reviews and an impressive box office, expect more Final Destinations for years to come.

This weekend, Lilo & Stitch and Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning are the two biggest attractions for Memorial Day. If you can’t make it to the theater, there are plenty of free options on FAST services. One of our recommendations is Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol. Our other two picks involve basketball and college parties.

We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+.

    Hoosiers (1986)

The NBA playoffs are in full swing. The unpredictability of the games means upsets are bound to happen. One of the greatest basketball upsets at the high school level is dramatized in Hoosiers. The late Gene Hackman stars as Norman Dale, a college coach who flamed out and gets to coach basketball again at Hickory High School.

The small Indiana town loves its basketball team but hates Coach Dale, who implements drastic disciplinarian measures in his coaching methods. However, Dale’s coaching and the return of star player Jimmy Chitwood (Maris Valainis) allow Hickory to experience a magical run in the 1951 state tournament. Hoosiers is the perfect underdog story and expertly captures the essence of small-town sports.

    Stream Hoosiers on Prime Video.

Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol (2011)

After the so-so reception to Mission: Impossible 3, Tom Cruise and Ethan Hunt needed a reset. Cruise brought in animation veteran Brad Bird to direct the fourth entry, Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol. The gamble worked, as the movie reignited the Mission movies and set the blueprint for future movies.

After being blamed for the Kremlin bombing, the IMF is disavowed, forcing Ethan (Cruise) to go on the run. To clear his name and restore the IMF, Ethan must team with other IMF fugitives to find those responsible for the bombing. Ghost Protocol leaned into set pieces and practical effects, highlighted by Cruise’s scaling of the Burj Khalifa, which might go down as his most memorable stunt.

Stream Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol for free on Pluto TV.

    S#!%house (2020)

Cooper Raiff understands young adults. Not since Richard Linklater has a new filmmaker captured the ethos of a coming-of-age film like Raiff did in S#!%house. (We’re going with the marketing title, but by all means, pronounce it with the swear words.) Homesick college freshman Alex (Raiff) struggles to adjust to his new life.

One night, Alex attends a party at the “S#!%house” fraternity and meets Maggie (Dylan Gelula), his sophomore residential advisor. Alex and Maggie spend the rest of the night together walking and talking as they form a genuine bond. Alex wants more in this relationship, while Maggie looks for the exit ramp. Don’t let the vulgar title fool you. S#!%house is all heart and a fantastic directorial debut.

  • 3 great Hulu movies you need to stream this weekend (May 23 – 26)

Heading into the long Memorial Day holiday weekend, Hulu is adding The Last Showgirl, a film that went under the radar last year and it could have disappeared entirely if not for a fantastic performance by Pamela Anderson. That’s why it was an easy pick to be the first choice among the three great Hulu movies you need to stream this weekend.

Our other picks include one of Tom Cruise’s best Mission: Impossible films, which is timely since Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is now in theaters. The final pick of the weekend is comedy/drama starring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper just three years after their acclaimed performances in Silver Linings Playbook.

Need more recommendations? We also have guides to the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+.

    The Last Showgirl (2024)

Some industry observers believed that Pamela Anderson was going to get an Oscar nomination for her leading role in The Last Showgirl. While that didn’t ultimately come to pass, Anderson’s performance was very powerful and it changed perceptions about what she can do as an actress. Anderson plays Shelly Gardner, a showgirl who has starred in a single Las Vegas revue for three decades. Shelly dedicated her life to the show, even at the expense of her only daughter, Hannah Gardner (Billie Lourd).

However, Shelly is completely unprepared when she learns that the revue is closing in two weeks, and this isn’t the kind of job that sends its employees into a comfortable retirement. For the first time in years, Shelly is truly terrified about her future prospects, because being a Las Vegas showgirl is all that she knows. Taking that away from Shelly might destroy her.

Watch The Last Showgirl on Hulu.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011)

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol is probably the fourth or fifth best Mission: Impossible movie… but it’s still pretty great! Animation director Brad Bird made his live-action debut with this sequel, which puts the entire Impossible Mission Force under the gun. Kurt Hendricks (Michael Nyqvist) has framed the IMF for bombing the Kremlin, which is why Russian agents are after Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his entire field team, including Jane Carter (Paula Patton) and Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg). Officially, the U.S. has also disavowed and disbanded the IMF. Unofficially, Ethan still has some leeway to clear their names.

Ethan gets some additional assistance from William Brandt (Jeremy Renner), a man who is hiding some secrets of his own. Brandt’s fighting skills are far too advanced for someone who isn’t supposed to be in the field, and his connection to Ethan is something that’s haunted him. But before they can deal with that emotional baggage, they’ll have to work together to save the world from Hendricks’ plans to unleash a nuclear war between the United States and Russia.

Watch Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol on Hulu.

    Joy (2015)

The Silver Linings Playbook team of director David O. Russell, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, and Bradley Cooper reunited in 2015 with Joy, a biopic about the creator of the Miracle Mop. Joy Mangano (Lawrence) is a put upon young woman who is not only supporting her kids, but also her mother, Terri Mangano (Virginia Madsen), her ex-husband, Rudy Mangano (De Niro), and even Joy’s ex-husband, Tony Miranne (Édgar Ramírez).

Joy’s invention leads her to QVC executive Neil Walker (Cooper), who helps her change her life when the mops become a success. However, Joy doesn’t get to have a happy ending at that point. There are members of her own family who try to steal her success out from under her, as well as some underhanded tactics from a business rival that may cost Joy everything she has.

    Watch Joy on Hulu.

  • 3 great free movies to stream this weekend (May 16-18)

The box office still belongs to Marvel thanks to the success of Thunderbolts*. The MCU offering has grossed $278 million worldwide heading into its third weekend in theaters. However, Final Destination Bloodlines is poised for a franchise-best opening weekend that would top the box office.

Theaters will be offering new summer blockbusters every week for the next three months. When you can’t make it to the theater, try streaming a free movie on a FAST service like Tubi and Pluto TV. These services continue to increase in popularity due to their no-cost options. Our recommendations for this weekend include a surprise horror hit, a Mission: Impossible entry, and a puzzling thriller.

We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+.

    Barbarian (2022)

Cash your ticket if you had a member of The Whitest Kids U’ Know crafting one of the best horror movies of the last five years. Zach Cregger surprised audiences in 2022 with Barbarian, a horror movie set at a rental home in Detroit. Tess Marshall (Georgina Campbell) is surprised to find Keith (Bill Skarsgård) staying at her Airbnb.

Despite her instincts telling her to leave, Tess spends the night with Keith. The next morning, things go off the rails. For fear of spoilers, I’ll stop there. Barbarian is a movie that you must see to believe. The twist is less effective the second time around, but if this is your first time, enjoy the madness.

    Stream Barbarian on Tubi.

Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation (2015)

It’s Mission: Impossible month in Hollywood, as audiences everywhere prepare for Tom Cruise to entertain them as Ethan Hunt one last time in Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning. As part of your rewatch, 2015’s Rogue Nation should be on your list. After the death of a station operative, the Senate decommissions the IMF and forces its employees to join the CIA.

Ethan refuses and goes on the run as he hopes to track down The Syndicate, a nefarious organization that threatens the global powers. Now a fugitive, Ethan recruits his old team and Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson) to join him in his hunt to destroy this rogue nation. To trigger your memory, Rogue Nation is when Ethan hangs off the side of a plane.

Stream Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation for free on Pluto TV.

    Escape Room (2019)

Final Destination Bloodlines is a franchise built on insane death scenes. These unfathomable sequences are like Rube Goldberg machines for murder. While Escape Room does not feature the violence of Final Destination, the elaborate life-or-death situations are something the two movies have in common.

Six strangers are invited to take part in an escape room challenge. If the players complete the tasks, they will win $10,000. Once the first challenge begins, the group quickly realizes failure to complete a mission will result in physical harm, with death being one of the possibilities. Starring Taylor Russell and Logan Miller, Escape Room is a brisk and entertaining 100-minute thriller specifically made for people who love to solve puzzles.

  • 3 underrated HBO Max movies you should watch this weekend (May 16-18)

Did you see the latest trailer for Superman? The new footage hammered down the emotional dilemma Superman faces as he tries to find his place in the world. Fans of James Gunn will know the filmmaker has a knack for telling impassioned stories, i.e., the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. Gunn clearly wants to make an emotional superhero epic. We’ll find out if that happens on July 11.

Superman will likely stream on HBO Max by the end of 2025. For now, try streaming some under-the-radar movies this weekend. Our suggestions include a South Park documentary, a wild neo-noir, and a mystery romance.

We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+.

6 Days to Air: The Making of South Park (2011)

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are geniuses, full stop. The duo are two of the most prolific creators in the entertainment industry, with multiple Emmys and Tonys to prove it. Sure, some of South Park’s humor may be viewed as lewd or vulgar, but my god is it hilarious. Many people don’t know how much effort goes into making one episode of South Park.

6 Days to Air is a fascinating view into the construction of one of the most successful adult animated TV shows. Most television shows are completed weeks to months in advance. South Park elects to finish the show hours before it airs to capitalize on current events. Watching Parker, Stone, and their team come up with the voices and stories is like watching Picasso paint. Fans are in for a treat as the writers make HumancentiPad, an episode that parodies iPhones and The Human Centipede.

Stream 6 Days to Air: The Making of South Park on Max.

    Inherent Vice (2014)

Inherent Vice is ranked in the back half of Paul Thomas Anderson’s filmography. Unfortunately for Inherent Vice, it’s sandwiched between two of PTA’s best movies, 2012’s The Master and 2017’s Phantom Thread. What this neo-noir has in its favor is comedy. Inherent Vice might be one of Anderson’s funniest movies.

The underrated crime movie stars Joaquin Phoenix as Larry “Doc” Sportello, a private detective asked by his ex-girlfriend Shasta (Katherine Waterston) to help keep her new boyfriend out of a mental hospital. Shasta eventually goes missing, forcing Doc to navigate a complicated world of crime, drugs, and cops. At times this movie is incoherent and confusing. I suggest going with the flow and treating it like a sophisticated stoner comedy.

    Stream Inherent Vice on Max.

    Where the Crawdads Sing (2022)

Audiences have proven time and time again that they will show out for mystery romance movies based on popular novels. Colleen Hoover adaptations are becoming more prevalent in Hollywood thanks to It Ends with Us. In that same vein, Where the Crawdads Sing was a sleeper hit in 2022, grossing over $144 million on a $24 million budget.

Based on Delia Owens’ novel, Where the Crawdads Sing stars Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kya, a young girl abandoned by her family and forced to live by herself in the North Carolina marsh. Despite being a social outcast, Kya is surprisingly charged with murdering local hero Chase Andrews (Harris Dickinson). The ensuing courtroom drama seeks to answer who killed Chase while revealing insight into Kya, who has been overlooked by society.

Stream Where the Crawdads Sing on Max.

  • 3 underrated shows on Netflix you need to watch in May 2025

It’s a fantastic month for new TV shows on Netflix. Tina Fey, Steve Carell, and Colman Domingo join forces in The Four Seasons, a romantic dramedy about three married couples whose group goes into peril when one opts for divorce. Other new shows in May include the final season of Big Mouth and Love, Death + Robots volume 4.

After scanning the Netflix homepage, dive deeper into the genre sections to find even more quality television. Three of the underrated offerings this month include a sketch comedy show, a teen soap drama, and a mysterious crime thriller.

We also have guides to the best new shows to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+.

    Bad Thoughts (2025)

Comedian Tom Segura has exploded in popularity thanks to his burgeoning stand-up comedy career and lucrative podcast company. Segura is betting on himself and trying his hand at sketch comedy in Bad Thoughts. Segura plays multiple characters in a series of vignettes that put the comedian in precarious situations, including an emergency landing, an assisted living facility, and the apocalypse.

One of the funnier sketches involves Segura playing a country who starts a cult in hopes of becoming more relatable. Bad Thoughts is not I Think You Should Leave, but there’s enough humor in this sketch show to keep you satisfied.

    Watch Bad Thoughts on Netflix.

    All American (2018-)

Before being acquired by Nexstar a few years ago, The CW was the network for teen soaps. Riverdale, Nancy Drew, Stargirl, and The Vampire Diaries all became teen favorites and grew even bigger on Netflix. The only drama left standing is All American, a sports show set in the world of high school football.

    Dark Winds (2022-)

Dark Winds was in a good position to be successful due to its critically acclaimed source material, Tony Hillerman’s Leaphorn & Chee series. Add in Robert Redford and George R.R. Martin as executive producers, and Dark Winds has become a sneaky hit for AMC. Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) is a veteran police lieutenant in Navajo County.

Leaphorn is paired with former FBI agent Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon) to solve a serial killer wreaking havoc on the community. The deeper they dig, the further they uncover a conspiracy tied to a robbery. Backed by a terrific leading performance from McClarnon, Dark Winds is an eerie crime thriller with a suspenseful mystery at the heart of each season.
