  • Samsung won’t stop teasing the Galaxy Z Fold 7: here are 3 things revealed already

Samsung is expected to announce its next generation of foldable devices in the coming months, and while we await confirmation from the South Korean brand on when exactly it plans on revealing the phones it’s continuing to tease the upcoming releases.

Samsung’s remaining coy on exact specs, but with each teaser it publishes we get a clearer picture of what we can expect when the Galaxy Z Fold 7 launch finally happens.

Galazy Z Fold 7 teaser timeline

    • June 3: An ‘Ultra’ foldable is teased, Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 names inadvertently revealed
    • June 9: “The newest Galaxy Z series is the thinnest, lightest and most advanced foldable yet”
    • June 11: Samsung teases triple cameras with AI-powered features on a foldable

    An ‘Ultra’ foldable

Samsung’s June 3 teaser invited us to “meet the next chapter of Ultra” with an animation of a foldable phone which could be the Galaxy Z Fold 7 Ultra.

Samsung looks set to apply the ‘Ultra’ moniker to an upcoming foldable phone, which would suggest the device will be the best foldable phone the firm will be offering. It’s likely to be pretty expensive too, but my colleague Gareth Beavis doesn’t see that as an issue.

This teaser also gave us a second reveal – whether Samsung meant it or not. I spotted the image used in the release appeared to confirm both the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 as it had the file name “Galaxy-Z-Fold7-Z-Flip7-Pre-tease-Bartype_1920x1080.gif”.

This release, and all subsequent releases, ends with the tag line “The Ultra experience is ready to unfold” – a Z Fold Ultra device looks almost nailed on to arrive this year.

Super slim, but is it the thinnest?

Six days later, on June 9, Samsung was back with another Z series teaser, declaring “the newest Galaxy Z series is the thinnest, lightest and most advanced foldable yet”.

An animated GIF in the post appears to show the outline of a supremely slender foldable, but it comes with a disclaimer which reads “Image simulated for illustrative purposes”, so it’s not clear how accurate it is.

Samsung certainly has its work cut out if it wants the Z Fold 7 to be the thinnest around, with the Honor Magic V3 measuring 9.3mm folded / 4.4mm unfolded, while the Oppo Find N5 is an even more svelte 8.9mm/4.2mm. Honor has itself teased that its upcoming Magic V5 foldable will be even thinner. Last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 by comparison comes in at a portly 12.1mm/5.6mm.

Three cameras, with AI at the heart

Samsung waited just two more days before unleashing the third Z Fold 7 teaser on June 11, this time focusing on cameras and AI. Another animated GIF was included, this time giving us a hint of a triple camera setup.

This isn’t huge news considering the Z Fold 6 also comes with three rear cameras, but Samsung pushes the AI-powered features angle by saying “the Galaxy camera is now part of the intuitive interface that turns what users see into understanding and action.

“When paired with the flexible, expansive screen of a foldable, this experience becomes even more powerful, dynamic and immersive.”

This sounds like the Galaxy Z Fold 7 could have Google’s Gemini Live feature built in (or a similar feature with Samsung’s own branding), allowing you to open up the camera for the AI assistant to view the world around you and provide contextual information on what it ‘sees’.

Recent reports point to a Galaxy Unpacked event happening sometime in July, so we may be only a few weeks away from finding out exactly what Samsung has in store for us.

  • Honor Magic V5 could have a bigger battery than Z Fold 7

The yet-to-be-announced Honor Magic V5 is rumored to come with a bigger than that of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Per a report from GSMArena, the size of the battery within Honor’s upcoming foldable phone is expected to be close to 6,000mAh. That’s because it will house two battery cells of varying sizes. One of those battery cells will be 3,880mAh, while the other is said to be 2,070mAh. Combining the two batteries together brings the Honor Magic V5’s battery size to 5,950mAh.

That’s 800mAh bigger than the battery inside the Honor Magic V3, which was 5,150mAh. At that size, the Magic V3 supported 66W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 5W reverse wireless charging — all while maintaining its title as the world’s thinnest foldable smartphone. The Magic V5 will also support 66W wired charging, but its wireless charging and reverse wireless charging specs have yet to be determined.

Meanwhile, the Z Fold 7 is said to have a 4,400mAh battery, which is the same capacity as the Z Fold 6. If the size of the Z Fold 7’s battery does remain the same, it would be plausible to assume that its charging power will be the same — 25W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and 4.5 reverse wireless charging. However, we won’t know the Z Fold 7’s true battery specs until Samsung officially announces the device.

You’re probably wondering, “Where’s the Magic V4?” We reported on rumors surrounding it back in February, but reports revealed that Honor will skip it in favor of the Magic V5. This is because Chinese phone manufacturers associate the number four with bad luck, and the Mandarin word for four veers close to the word for “death,” resulting in tetraphobia. This is exactly why Oppo released the Oppo Find N5 after the Oppo Find N3.

  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 tipped for long-awaited design overhaul

Known tipster ICE CAT has posted some “exclusive information” on X today, claiming that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 will launch as the thinnest foldable in the world. At 3.9mm when open and just 8.9mm when folded, the Z Fold 7 would beat both the Honor Magic V3 and the Oppo Find N5 (just about).

It will also leave its last foldable flagship, the Z Fold 6, in the dust by shaving off a massive 3.2mm while folded. The Oppo Find N5 measures at 4.21mm unfolded and 8.93mm folded, so it’s a very similar size to the Z Fold 7 numbers ICE CAT is sharing here.

The leaker also mentions that new battery and charging tech will be adopted, and the phone will use a 4,400mAh battery — which is the same capacity as both the Z Fold 6 and the Z Fold 5. This means it will be up to that new tech to improve efficiency and hopefully squeeze out some extra screen time. We don’t know any details yet, but we should find out more during the Galaxy Unpacked event in July — where both the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Galaxy Z Flip 7 are expected to be unveiled.

The battery for the Z Flip 7 will be 4,300mAh, which is a step up from the Z Flip 6‘s 4,000mAh. As a last comment, ICE CAT mentions that “the basic version of Galaxy S26 will continue to be thin.”

The goal of a thin foldable phone is to ensure that it’s no thicker than a normal phone when folded — which sounds great, but a sub-4mm thickness when unfolded is getting extremely thin. Considering how this affects battery capacity and sturdiness, it may not seem worth it to some users. It will be interesting to see how Samsung sells the product during the Unpacked event and whether it addresses these kinds of concerns.

  • Next-gen foldables incoming as Samsung reportedly begins mass production of Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7

It’s been a busy year for Samsung so far having launched the Galaxy S25 series at the beginning of the year, followed by new AI-focused digital appliances and vacuum cleaners a couple of months later. But if you thought that was it from Samsung this year, think again.

The company is just weeks away from an official launch of the Galaxy S25 Edge, rumored to be fully revealed on 13 May after being teased during the Galaxy S25 event, and its folding devices are also expected before the end of the summer.

Speaking of Samsung’s folding devices, the latest rumor has claimed production has started for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. The report comes from PandaFlashPro on X, picked up by Sammobile, and it suggests the two devices, as well as accessories, have entered the production lines.

If true, it should put the folding devices on track to launch on time, which if last year is anything to go by, should be sometime in July. Samsung used to announce its folding phones and smartwatches in early August but the timeline has been brought forward in recent years.

Interestingly, the post from PandaFlashPro doesn’t mention the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, which has also been rumored to be launching alongside the other two devices as a cheaper alternative. There have been a number of reports surrounding the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7 already and while Samsung hasn’t confirmed anything about the devices as yet, we are starting to get a good idea as to what they might offer.

What can we expect from the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7?

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is expected to rival Motorola’s Razr Ultra 2025 when it launches, with reports claiming it will feature a larger external display than the Galaxy Z Flip 6 at 4-inches – like Motorola’s Razr Ultra 2025 – and be fully functional too. The Galaxy Z Flip 6’s cover screen is limited to notifications, quick settings and widgets unless you fiddle with back end settings and third-party tools so a more functional external display like Motorola’s Razr offers would be welcomed.

There is also expected to be a larger battery capacity, though while the Snapdragon 8 Elite was initially reported to be under the hood, more recent reports suggest Exynos 2500 will power Samsung’s flagship flip phone.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7, however, is expected to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, whilst offering a slimmer design to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

For now, nothing is officially confirmed of course but if mass production has started for these two devices, we wouldn’t be surprised to see more rumors surrounding them appear over the next few weeks and months.

  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Everything we know so far

It feels like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 was only released yesterday, but Samsung’s most advanced smartphone ever was actually revealed almost a year ago now. And that means another uber-premium Samsung foldable is on the horizon. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 hasn’t been officially revealed yet, but we have plenty of leaks to dig into. Here’s everything you need to know about this upcoming new foldable, when you might be able to expect it, and what it might include.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Design and display

Samsung has been receiving some justifiable criticism recently for allowing its foldables to stagnate, especially following some new designs from Chinese phone companies. It doesn’t look as if we’ll be getting any huge changes with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, but Samsung is definitely making some alterations that will freshen up the Z Fold range.

Some of the earliest reports about the Z Fold 7 centered around its thickness. Thickness is rapidly becoming an important metric for foldable phones, as they tend to thicker than usual when folded — as much as two phones deep, which puts a hefty weight and thickness into a consumer’s pocket. So it’s unsurprising Samsung may be looking to reduce that. Way back in July 2024, it was reported that TM Roh, then head of Samsung’s Mobile divison, wanted to focus on making a slimmer folding phone. This eventually culminated in the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, a Korea-only exclusive that was notably slimmer than the Z Fold 6, and packed in new specifications and larger displays.

Excitingly for Samsung fans, the Special Edition is now reportedly the basis for the Z Fold 7, which means Samsung’s upcoming foldable could sport an 8-inch inner display and a 6.5-inch cover display. That’s an increase of 0.4-inches and 0.2-inches respectively from the Z Fold 6, and would comprise a significant jump up in screen real estate. It would also be, reportedly, a lot slimmer than the Z Fold 6.

These reports have largely stayed consistent over the months, with OnLeaks pushing the inner display size up to 8.2-inches, but keeping the 6.5-inch cover display of earlier leaks. Also consistent has been the narrative that Samsung will be revealing a much thinner phone, most likely to take on slimmer rivals like the Oppo Find N5. However, don’t expect the overall design to change much, as Samsung will likely keep the same look.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Camera

    Android Headlines

The phone’s design has been the centerpiece of most rumors and leaks at this stage, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t a little about the camera specs. Early speculation was that we could expect the Z Fold 7 to mimic not only the Special Edition’s new size, but also its upgraded 200-megapixel main camera. This was shot down in January of this year when it was claimed the Z Fold 7 wouldn’t get much in the way of camera upgrades, but has since come roaring back with a vengeance.

Where does this leave us? A little confused, much like the current reports. As it is, it wouldn’t be unusual for Samsung to be looking at an upgraded camera, as the Z Fold range has been rocking similar specs since the Galaxy Z Fold 4. So to say the lenses are getting on a bit is understating the problem. However, with Samsung reportedly looking at slimming the phone down and expanding the screen size, it’s also possible it will push any serious camera upgrades to the Z Fold 8, in order to save a bit of money. So even if a 200MP main lens is possible, we expect they’ll keep the telephoto and wide-angle lenses the same to save a few pennies.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Specs

    Qualcomm

We’ve heard less about the Z Fold 7’s potential specs than you might expect, as most of the speculation has been about the phone’s rumored size changes. This makes sense, as it was always the phone’s form factor that made it unique, rather than its inner hardware.

However, we can definitely count on this being a high-end premium flagship phone. That means to expect the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, like the Galaxy S25, as well as comparable amounts of RAM. We expect up to 1TB of storage too, as per the previous models.

One disappointing piece of news is that the Z Fold 7’s charging speeds are expected to stay at a disappointing 25W. That’s far slower than the 45W charging rate on the Galaxy S25 Plus and S25 Ultra, and very far behind the 80W charging on the OnePlus 13. Not having faster charging speeds would be a real letdown for such a premium phone.

    Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: S Pen

One interesting piece of news involves the Samsung S Pen, and the Fold Edition that may be available for the Z Fold 7. Reports are saying that Samsung is looking to trim out parts of the S Pen to make it slimmer, and help it fit with a now-slimmer Z Fold 7. Specifically, it may be looking to remove the stylus’s digitizer element and replace it with an active electrostatic (AES) system. This change would reduce input lag for the stylus, without affecting pressure sensitivity, and would also allow Samsung to make the S Pen a bit thinner too. On the flipside, it would make it heavier and require it to need regular recharges, which would be a new challenge for the Z Fold.

Whether this will materialize or not remains to be seen, but it’s also assumed it would lead to a price rise in the S Pen Fold Edition, so keep an eye out for that if it does happen.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Release date

    Android Headlines

The potential release date of the Z Fold 7 is a bit of a mystery at this point, but the easy money is on a July reveal. The Z Fold 6 and Z Fold 5 were both revealed in July of their respective years, and while Samsung has moved dates around before, it’s always a good idea to go with prior trends unless we hear otherwise. Pencil in a reveal for July and wait and see.

The price is another area we haven’t heard much about, but don’t expect to see prices go down. The Z Fold 65’s starting price of $1,900 is a good expectation for the Z Fold 7, and since Samsung increased prices with that phone, we wouldn’t assume it would be looking to do the same once again. However, that may change as we hear more in the run-up to a reveal, so make sure to check back with us from time-to-time to find out the latest.

  • Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 could get an Ultra upgrade

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series has now been around for a couple of months, and its most recent additions to its Galaxy A series were also introduced just before Mobile World Congress at the beginning of March. That means all eyes are turning to the company’s folding phones and the latest report suggests there could be a long overdue update for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in the pipeline.

According to GalaxyClub, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 could come with a higher resolution main sensor than we have seen previously from the range. It’s suggested that the flagship folding device will borrow from the Galaxy S25 Ultra by offering the same 200-megapixel main sensor, which would be quite a significant resolution increase on the Galaxy Z Fold 6‘s 50-megapixel offering.

If the rumour is true, it would make the Galaxy Z Fold 7 the first folding device from Samsung to launch outside of South Korea with a 200-megapixel sensor, and it would also close the camera performance gap between Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S Ultra and the Galaxy Z line.

What else might the Galaxy Z Fold 7 offer?

The report on GalaxyClub also mentions the under-display camera of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and suggests that too will see an improvement over the Galaxy Z Fold 6. It doesn’t specify a resolution increase, but it does say it will get “better”.

As for the other rear cameras and the front camera, the report suggests these will remain the same as the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which would mean the 200-megapixel main camera will be joined by a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera, while the front camera will remain at 10-megapixels.

There’s currently no official word on when we might see the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 arrive, though rumours – supported by the GalaxyClub report – suggest July is the month to mark in your calendar. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is also expected to launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and there is also talk of a tri-fold device, which would presumably rival the Huawei Mate XT if it arrives.
