  • NFL fans must watch Quarterback, one of Netflix’s most underrated shows this month

It was only a matter of time before Netflix jumped into sports. In 2025, every streamer needs live sports, even the prolific Netflix. NFL on Christmas, boxing with Jake Paul, and WWE’s Monday Night Raw have set streaming records because of Netflix’s reach.

Live sports are entertaining, but it’s the documentaries that are truly great. For example, Quarterback is an eye-opening look into the life of an NFL QB. It’s one of three underrated shows to watch this July. Find out the rest below.

We also have guides to the best new shows to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on HBO Max, and the best movies on Disney+.

    Quarterback (2023-)

Go under center with some of the NFL’s top signal callers this summer in Quarterback season 2. After a two-year hiatus, Quarterback returns with three new QBs: Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow, Atlanta’s Kirk Cousins, and Detroit’s Jared Goff. Netflix’s cameras documented the 2024 seasons for all three quarterbacks. Burrow set records, Cousins got benched, and Goff resurrected his career.

Think of Quarterback like Hard Knocks for the game’s most important position. I don’t know how Netflix records so much in-depth footage and sound bites, but I’m glad they do. Quarterback is the perfect appetizer for the upcoming NFL season.

    Stream Quarterback on Netflix.

    Court of Gold (2025)

Last summer, the United States men’s national basketball team won the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The team included basketball’s version of the Avengers: LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry. The trio each had a signature moment in Paris, with all three coming up clutch in the semifinals and the gold medal game. Thankfully, Netflix cameras chronicled the entire journey in Court of Gold.

While the U.S. became the focal point of the documentary, the series also followed France, Serbia, and Canada. Like QuarterbackCourt of Gold is tailor-made for the basketball junkie. Watching Durant talk about Olympic basketball will give you chills.

Stream Court of Gold on Netflix.

America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (2024-)

The Dallas Cowboys are America’s team for a reason. From the spaceship-like stadium and Hall of Fame players to the iconic uniforms and recognizable brand, owner Jerry Jones transformed the Cowboys into an American staple. Part of that brand includes the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders. With their white shorts and blue crop tops, “America’s Sweethearts” have been dancing since the 1960s.

America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders brings fans into the chaos, starting with the competitive tryouts at the beginning of each season. You’re going to gain a greater appreciation for these women after seeing how much blood, sweat, and tears they put into being a Cowboy cheerleader.

Stream America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders on Netflix.

  • 3 underrated shows on Netflix you need to watch in June 2025

One of Netflix’s biggest shows calls it quits at the end of the month. Squid Game wraps up its historic Netflix run with the third and final season. Can Gi-hun defeat the Front Man and shut down the games for good?

Other popular shows this month include Ginny & Georgia season 3 and Tires. Beyond the popular shows, Netflix has an entire world of underrated shows. Keep reading, and you’ll find three good recommendations below.

We also have guides to the best new shows to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+.

    Animal Kingdom (2016-2022)

Animal Kingdom is a gritty crime thriller that ran for six seasons on TNT. With all due respect to TNT, the ratings were never anything impressive. Now that Animal Kingdom is on Netflix, it will gain more eyeballs, so expect the show to find itself in the top 10.

Based on the Academy Award-nominated film of the same name, Animal Kingdom revolves around Joshua “J” Cody (Last Breath’s Finn Cole), a 17-year-old teenager forced to relocate to Southern California to live with his estranged relatives. Led by Janine “Smurf” Cody (Ellen Barkin), J’s relatives carry out heists and other illegal activities. To remain in the house, J must pull his weight, meaning he’ll have to partake in the family business.

    Watch Animal Kingdom on Netflix.

Muscles & Mayhem: An Unauthorized Story of American Gladiators (2023)

For those who have seen American Gladiators, this eye-opening documentary will raise a few eyebrows about what went wrong. For those new to the topic, American Gladiators was a competition show from the late 1980s to the mid-1990s that pitted average contestants against “gladiators,” costumed athletes with elite speed, strength, and agility.

The stylish show was extremely entertaining thanks to games like Tug of War, Powerball, and the Eliminator. The real drama existed behind the scenes, as the steroid-fueled gladiators went to war with the network. It’s a fun rise-and-fall documentary about an enjoyable show.

Watch Muscles & Mayhem: An Unauthorized Story of American Gladiators on Netflix.

    The Flash (2014-2023)

Forget Ezra Miller’s movie. The best version of The Flash aired on CW. Grant Gustin starred as Barry Allen, a forensic investigator who gains superhuman speed after a lab explosion. As The Flash, Barry becomes the de facto superhero of Central City.

By utilizing the “villain of the week” format early on, The Flash established a lightheartedness and delightfulness that was nonexistent in the 2023 movie, making for an entertaining viewing experience. Unfortunately, the CW dropped all of their superhero shows, so no more new episodes will be coming.

  • 3 underrated shows on Netflix you need to watch in May 2025

It’s a fantastic month for new TV shows on Netflix. Tina Fey, Steve Carell, and Colman Domingo join forces in The Four Seasons, a romantic dramedy about three married couples whose group goes into peril when one opts for divorce. Other new shows in May include the final season of Big Mouth and Love, Death + Robots volume 4.

After scanning the Netflix homepage, dive deeper into the genre sections to find even more quality television. Three of the underrated offerings this month include a sketch comedy show, a teen soap drama, and a mysterious crime thriller.

We also have guides to the best new shows to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+.

    Bad Thoughts (2025)

Comedian Tom Segura has exploded in popularity thanks to his burgeoning stand-up comedy career and lucrative podcast company. Segura is betting on himself and trying his hand at sketch comedy in Bad Thoughts. Segura plays multiple characters in a series of vignettes that put the comedian in precarious situations, including an emergency landing, an assisted living facility, and the apocalypse.

One of the funnier sketches involves Segura playing a country who starts a cult in hopes of becoming more relatable. Bad Thoughts is not I Think You Should Leave, but there’s enough humor in this sketch show to keep you satisfied.

    Watch Bad Thoughts on Netflix.

    All American (2018-)

Before being acquired by Nexstar a few years ago, The CW was the network for teen soaps. Riverdale, Nancy Drew, Stargirl, and The Vampire Diaries all became teen favorites and grew even bigger on Netflix. The only drama left standing is All American, a sports show set in the world of high school football.

Spencer James (Daniel Ezra) is a talented high school football player from South Central Los Angeles. Spencer’s prowess draws the attention of Billy Baker (Taye Diggs), the head football coach at Beverly Hills School. Coach Baker offers Spencer a scholarship. Now a fish out of water, Spencer must navigate life on and off the field. This is a teen show, so expect a lot of relationship drama.

    Watch All-American on Netflix.

    Dark Winds (2022-)

Dark Winds was in a good position to be successful due to its critically acclaimed source material, Tony Hillerman’s Leaphorn & Chee series. Add in Robert Redford and George R.R. Martin as executive producers, and Dark Winds has become a sneaky hit for AMC. Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) is a veteran police lieutenant in Navajo County.

Leaphorn is paired with former FBI agent Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon) to solve a serial killer wreaking havoc on the community. The deeper they dig, the further they uncover a conspiracy tied to a robbery. Backed by a terrific leading performance from McClarnon, Dark Winds is an eerie crime thriller with a suspenseful mystery at the heart of each season.

    Watch Dark Winds on Netflix.

    Overcompensating (2025)

Benny (Benito Skinner) used to play high school football. He was even homecoming king. Now, he’s in college, still closeted, and befriends Carmen (Wally Baram), an outsider who is desperate to fit in in hopes that he can find his own place. Together, the pair navigate relationships and all the usual college shenanigans.

Overcompensating was created by Skinner and inspired by his life. Charlie XCX is a guest star and also produced original music for the series. At its heart, Overcompensating is a coming-of-age story for adulthood and a look at how we discover who we truly are. Overcompensating also stars Adam DiMarco, Rish Shah, Connie Britton, Kyle MacLachlan, and Kaia Gerber in recurring roles.

Stream Overcompensating on Amazon Prime Video.

    Timeless (2016)

Abigail Spencer (Suits, Grey’s Anatomy), Matt Lanter (90210), and Malcolm Barrett (Better Off Ted) star in Timeless, a sci-fi drama about time travel and a team working to stop events that could change the course of history. The series hails from the same executive producers behind The Blacklist and the creator of The Boys, Eric Kripke.

While it only lasted two seasons, a two-part finale was ordered to conclude the show, so you’ll get a good story from start to finish through the 28 episodes. Fun and even silly at times, Timeless is an entertaining watch.

Stream Timeless on Amazon Prime Video.

The Narrow Road to the Deep North (2025)

Based on the Richard Flanagan novel of the same name, The Narrow Road to the Deep North follows the main character, Dorrigo Evans (Jacob Elordi), through three crucial periods in his life: before World War II, during the war as a prisoner in the Far East, and decades after the war has ended. The twist is that through it all, he is embroiled in a torrid love affair with his uncle’s wife, Amy (Odessa Young).

The Narrow Road to the Deep North earned high praise with a hard-to-get 100% Rotten Tomatoes critics score, though audiences aren’t as complimentary. For a show about the tragedy of war and the complications of love, however, it’s real and raw with fabulous chemistry between the leads.

Stream The Narrow Road to the Deep North on Amazon Prime Video.

  • 3 underrated shows on Netflix you need to watch in April 2025

This month on Netflix, Charlie Brooker returns for more social nightmares with Black Mirror season 7. For the first time in series history, Brooker did a sequel, USS Callister: Into Infinity, the follow-up to the Emmy-winning USS Callister from season 4. The other notable show coming in April is You season 5, the final run for serial killer Joe Goldberg.

While Black Mirror and You will dominate the most popular list for all of April, more shows are ready to be watched at the click of a button. Some underrated offerings include a stand-up comedy special, a conspiracy thriller, and a children’s TV show.

We also have guides to the best new shows to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+.

Kill Tony: Kill or Be Killed (2025)

Tony Hinchcliffe has been hosting Kill Tony for nearly 12 years. The stand-up comedy variety show has gained a cult following over the years. It started in small comedy rooms and has since grown to some of the world’s most famous arenas, like Madison Square Garden. After Hinchcliffe stole the show at The Roast of Tom Brady, Netflix got into business with the comedian for three Kill Tony specials, with the first being Kill or Be Killed.

If this is your first Kill Tony episode, here is the format. Hundreds of comedians drop their names into the Bucket of Destiny. If a comedian’s name is called, they get to perform stand-up for one minute onstage. Then, Hinchcliffe, co-host Brian Redban, and a panel of comedians conduct an interview that typically leads to a roast. The jokes are quick, the laughs are abundant, and the craziness never stops. That’s Kill Tony in a nutshell.

Watch Kill Tony: Kill or Be Killed on Netflix.

    The Madness (2024)

Colman Domingo is having a moment. In the past three years, Domingo has won an Emmy for his performance on Euphoria, received two Oscar nominations for Best Actor (Rustin, Sing Sing), and signed on to be in the cast of Steven Spielberg’s next movie. Despite the busy schedule, Domingo still found some time to headline The Madness, a conspiracy thriller series that aired in November.

Muncie Daniels (Domingo) is an author and rising star in media. Right before his career is about to take off, Muncie discovers the dead body of a white supremacist in the Poconos. Much to his dismay, Muncie is framed for murder and becomes the top suspect. Now, Muncie goes into survival mode, doing whatever he can to stay alive. The Madness is a throwback to the ’70s political thrillers that fed into people’s paranoia.

    Watch The Madness on Netflix.

    Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (1993-1995)

It’s morphing time. Admittedly, this pick is not for everyone. You likely had to be a child when Mighty Morphin Power Rangers aired in the early ’90s. However, the Power Rangers came back in a big way in 2023 with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always, a special to honor the 30th anniversary of the show. Now, go back to the beginning and see the origins of the teenagers who became superheroes in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

In the city of Angel Grove, five teenagers — Jason Lee Scott (Austin St. John), Zack Taylor (Walter Emanuel Jones), Billy Cranston (David Yost), Trini Kwan (Thuy Trang), and Kimberly Hart (Amy Jo Johnson) — are recruited by the wizard Zordon to become Power Rangers. The teens agree and get to work on saving the world, mainly from the villainous Rita Repulsa (Machiko Soga). It’s children’s television, but you’ll be surprised by how well the action holds up for a kids show.

    American Nightmare (2024)

American Nightmare | Official Trailer | Netflix

A brilliant documentary series that chronicles a genuinely bizarre series of events, American Nightmare tells the story of the kidnapping of Denise Huskins and the aftermath in which police accused her of orchestrating the kidnapping herself.

As she fights to prove that she was actually taken, she has to relive the traumas of that time and prove that she is not as sinister as she seems. This story and what it says both about police and about how they handle female victims is revelatory, and the documentary knows exactly how to frame every moment for maximal impact.

You can watch American Nightmare on Netflix.

    One Day (2024)

    One Day Limited Series Trailer

A swooningly romantic, heartbreaking series, One Day tells the story of two Brits who meet at their graduation ball and proceed to fall in love with each other over more than a decade.

The story’s conceit involves checking in with the couple on the same day every year, allowing for the show to present a grand sweep of time and also for us to see how these two change over the course of years. Brilliantly performed by Leo Woodall and Ambika Mod, One Day is sweeping and swoon-worthy in all the ways you’d want a show like this to be.

You can watch One Day on Netflix.

    Maid (2021)

Margaret Qualley has emerged as one of the most promising young stars of the past five years, and Maid is one of her best performances. The series follows a single mother who starts cleaning houses to provide a better life for her daughter after escaping from an abusive relationship.

Maid sheds light on what cycles of poverty look like in a way that few other shows do, allowing us to understand how much every decision comes with real financial costs for the central character. Qualley is excellent as a woman doing her best amidst impossible circumstances, and she’s a huge part of why Maid is worth watching.

You can watch Maid on Netflix.

  • 3 underrated shows on Netflix you need to watch in March 2025

Netflix has some potential hits on tap this month. The streamer is letting John Mulaney host a late-night show, Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney. The comedian had a successful tryout last year with John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA. Super producer Shonda Rhimes is back with her latest show, The Residence, a whodunit set in the White House. When Rhimes puts a show on Netflix, it becomes a hit, i.e., Bridgerton.

March’s new shows will be all over the most popular list. Below are three underrated shows to stream in March. Our picks include a prison thriller, a teen sitcom, and a sports drama.

We also have guides to the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Maxand the best movies on Disney+.

    Prison Break (2005-2017)

Prison Break – Season 1 Trailer

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to guess the plot of a show named Prison Break. There’s an escape attempt from jail, but the details before and after the break make this crime drama extremely entertaining. After being wrongfully accused of murder, Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) is sent to Death Row. Lincoln’s brother, Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), devises a plan to save his brother.

Michael’s plan does not involve the legal system. Michael commits a crime and gets incarcerated at the same prison as Lincoln. With the two brothers under the same roof, they plan their escape. The more the brothers explore the case, the more they learn about the conspiracy to frame Lincoln. With a Prison Break reboot set in the same universe in development, there’s no better time to start a rewatch than now.

    Watch Prison Break on Netflix.

    Ballers (2015-2019)

Ballers: Season 1 | Mid-Season Official Extended Trailer | HBO

Once “Kane is in the building” from Lil Wayne’s Right Above It hit your ears, it was time for Ballers, a sports drama that ran for five seasons on HBO. Dwayne Johnson stars as Spencer Strasmore, a former NFL player forced into an early retirement due to an injury. Needing a second act, Spencer begins working as a financial manager for current NFL players.

Spencer quickly realizes that life off the field is just as competitive as the game between the white lines. The business of professional sports is cutthroat and nasty. Only the strongest and smartest minds will survive. Ballers came out firing, with two good seasons that any sports fan will appreciate. It’s also fun to rewatch and see John David Washington break out as an actor.

    Watch Ballers on Netflix.

    Drake & Josh (2004-2007)

This is purely a nostalgia pick. If you were between the ages of eight and eighteen in the mid-2000s, then Drake & Josh had to be in your rotation. The Nickelodeon sitcom starred Drake Bell and Josh Peck (Red Dawn) as the titular teenage stepbrothers. The two boys seemingly have nothing in common. Drake is a charming and dim-witted musician who gets the girls. Josh is intelligent and awkward.

The boys slowly find common ground while living in the same room. Since the show is a sitcom, the boys get into some serious hijinks, from a Blues Brothers’ talent show and dune buggy crash to a pool shark and a faulty treehouse. As always, the boys will find a way.

Watch Drake & Josh on Netflix.

  • 3 underrated Netflix shows you should watch this weekend (March 14-16)

Netflix’s tremendous success as a streaming behemoth comes in part from its ability to constantly introduce subscribers to something new. That feeling that there’s always something to watch is great. However, the tradeoff is that tons of stuff might never pop into your recommendation algorithm.

If you’re looking for a great show to watch this weekend, we’ve pulled together three shows on Netflix that are unlikely to show up for you on their own.

We also have guides to the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+.

    Bloodline (2015-2017)

    Bloodline – Trailer

One of Netflix’s early, great shows, Bloodline, follows a Florida family whose buried secrets begin to unveil themselves, leading to cascading crises. Bloodline is notable in part because it features an incredible supporting performance from Ben Mendelsohn, who plays the family’s most troublesome brother.

Kyle Chandler is the show’s lead, though, and delivers the kind of performance you could expect from one of TV’s best. Over its three seasons, Bloodline provided plenty of intrigue and managed to wrap up its story before things got too complicated.

You can watch Bloodline on Netflix.

    Heels (2021-2023)

Heels Season 1 Trailer | Rotten Tomatoes TV

Starring Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig as two brothers who vie for their father’s wrestling imprint even as they battle in the ring, Heels is very intentionally a wrestling show about the people who don’t get to be heroes.

Like many recent wrestling shows, Heels understands that there are plenty of great stories to tell about what happens behind the scenes in professional wrestling. Amell and Ludwig give committed, physical performances in their central roles, and Heels only continues to get more interesting as it expands the scope of the story it’s trying to tell.

You can watch Heels on Netflix.

    Warrior (2019-2023)

Warrior | Official Tease | Cinemax

Set in San Francisco’s Chinatown in the second half of the 19th century, Warrior is about a brutal gang war and the martial arts master who gets caught in the middle of it. Based on the writings of Bruce Lee, Warrior takes its time unveiling the motivations of its central character and features plenty of action along the way to keep you enticed.

The series’ largely Asian cast still feels revolutionary, as does its attention to detail in recreating a totally unrecognizable San Francisco. Warrior got plenty of acclaim but struggled to find a wide audience. Hopefully, it can find the fans it deserves now that it’s on Netflix.

You can watch Warrior on Netflix.
