When done right, blazers can be a star player in your wardrobe. They can take you from work to the weekend, add a bit of polish to an otherwise casual look, and even be worn as outerwear when temperatures begin to warm.

As a fashion writer and plus-size fashion expert, I get to test out a lot of options and hear feedback directly from my industry peers, so I’ve amassed quite a bit of knowledge about what is on the market and what is worth investing in.

After an in-depth review of what is available now, including wear-testing pieces and interviewing fashionable women in the know, I’ve rounded up the best blazers for every size range from petite to plus. I’ve also found blazers for different aesthetics and wardrobe needs, from sharp, office-ready wool suiting to casual, breathable fabrics that pair well with easy denim looks.

Read on for my picks of the best places to shop blazers in 2025. And if you’re building a full work wardrobe, see our pieces on the best women’s workwear, the best work bags for women, the best plus-size workwear, and more.

    Best overall: Spanx Ponte Blazer

author taking selfie of suit from Spanx

We love Spanx’s workwear because of the stretchy yet structured Ponte material the brand uses to construct its blazers and pants. In fact, this blazer is the companion to the pants we named the best black work pants — and they feature the same loungewear-like comfort.

“I love this piece because it’s a basic black blazer that doesn’t wrinkle, so it’s easy to take on trips. Plus, it’s super versatile because it isn’t made of seasonal fabrics like wool or linen. Spanx does it again with another piece made from their signature stretchy, super comfortable material.”

The Ponte Blazer paired with the Ponte Wide-leg Pant also made our list of the best suits for women.

    Best lightweight: Marcella NYC

two pictures the author in a black dress and light blue blazer

Whether you live in a warm climate or just want to have cute blazers in rotation for summer months, finding a great lightweight blazer feels like a wardrobe victory. When I am shopping for warmer temperatures, I always look for breathable natural fabrics like linen and cotton (because who wants to be sweating in a poly blend in August?).

Natural fibers address that issue but also add the challenge of keeping the look sharp. Depending on the style, linen, in particular, can look very relaxed, which is not going to be the desired look for everyone. But if you want breathable fibers without the crunchy aesthetic, this linen-cotton blend blazer from Marcella NYC is an excellent option.

The structure built into the bodice keeps things looking sharp without being overly stuffy, giving it the versatility it takes for a true work-to-weekend-ready piece. I wore it more casually, with a bodysuit, Mary Jane ballet flats, and mesh maxi skirt from plus vintage favorite Berriez, and loved the effect. For the office, it would look great over a crisp button-down or a sleek sheath dress. Per their size chart, an XXXL is the equivalent of an 18/20, which is my usual size, and I found this to fit true to size. n

    Best classic: Argent Single-Button Blazer

author in green blazer and jeans

If you are looking for the type of gorgeous classic wool blazer you’ll have for a lifetime, Argent should be on your radar. This woman-owned NYC label makes the platonic ideal of this wardrobe staple, with a “Seasonless” 98% wool blend purported to be “naturally temperature regulating and odor and wrinkle resistant” – and it lives up to the claims.

I wore it on a day when the temperatures fluctuated wildly (from overly heated cafes to a balmy spring afternoon to a suddenly freezing evening), and I was comfortable—and gloriously unrumpled—throughout. The blazer even kept its shape after being tossed haphazardly in a restaurant booth during dinner—a true testament to its wrinkle resistance!

This fabric is excellent, and if you love it as much as I do, you are in luck: This particular blazer is available in 13 different colors, and there are other styles offered in the same signature wool blend, including a relaxed peak lapel blazer and a cool wrap vest (which looks fantastic on a curvy figure). I’ve found their sizing to be relatively true to size – my only suggestion is to size up in their double-breasted styles if you have a fuller bust and want the option to wear them buttoned up.

Best soft structure: T.W.I.N. (That’s What I Need)

the author in an all-blue outfit with a darker blue blazer

One of the best things about a good blazer is the instant structure it can add to an outfit’s silhouette, but sometimes that structure comes at the cost of real comfort, as many blazers are made with stiffer fabrics to retain the shape better. But with this style from NYC label T.W.I.N., you do not have to choose between structure and comfort.

The sustainably sourced punto di Roma fabric (the original Ponte!) holds the blazer’s hourglass shape while still feeling soft and yielding. It also wears wonderfully, resisting wrinkles and looking sharp even after a day of running around NYC to meetings.

One thing to note: T.W.I.N.’s sizing runs very generous in most stretch items, and that includes this 04 Double Breasted Blazer. I am a size 20 and haven’t been an XL in years, but I am comfortably wearing an XL here. So unless you are looking for an oversized fit, I absolutely suggest sizing up in this style (and that goes for T.W.I.N.’s staple 02 Knit Blazer as well.

    Best cotton: Able

two side-by-side pictures of the author in a blue blazer and green stiped dress on the streets of NYC

There’s something cool and polished about a slightly roomy pinstripe blazer, and the cotton Michelle blazer from Nashville-based Able is a perfect example. It has enough structure to keep things office-sharp but not so much that it feels stiff or overly formal for day-to-day wear.

I’ve found Able’s sizing to run true to size and sometimes a little generous, so this is one brand I don’t recommend sizing up in. I got this pinstripe blazer in my usual 2x, and it fit exactly as I hoped it would. It is loose throughout, including the upper arms and across the bust (even when buttoned!), but doesn’t look slouchy or too big.

This blazer is fully lined, and the weight of the 98% cotton body is substantial, so it is a great option from fall to late spring – pretty much anything but high summer! I styled it with a cool striped dress for a little stripe print mixing moment, and I already have a bunch of other outfits in my mind that would look great with this. I feel like this is the type of piece you’d end up reaching for regularly.

Best petite: Petite Studio Jane Blazer

two editors wear a grey and black plaid wool blazer

Petite Studio makes clothing with petite needs in mind, and its Jane blazer is one of senior editor Sally Kaplan’s favorites. The front panel is cropped a few inches shorter than the back which is a thoughtful petite touch, and while the sleeves are slightly long on Sally’s 5’1 frame, it’s certainly not a dealbreaker. Paying $200 isn’t ideal, but the customization is worth it if you’re looking for a boxy blazer that’s made with a petite body in mind.

We recommend ordering your standard size. Sally typically wears an 8 or 10, and that’s the range given for the large — which is the size she’s wearing in the picture above.

    Best budget: The Drop

one model in red blazer, another model in grey pinstripe blazer

If you are the type of shopper that loves to find a style that fits and buy it in multiple colors, this blazer from Amazon’s The Drop should be on your radar. The one button, single breasted silhouette is versatile and classic, and the affordable price point makes getting a few colors less daunting of a splurge. More importantly though, it stands up to regular wear. Jewel Elizabeth, Author of The Encyclopedia of New York Fashion, has a collection of her own and recommends it heartily: “This Blake Blazer from Amazon’s The Drop is so good I have it in 3 colors. It fits a woman’s body, can be thrown in the wash, and comes in a ton of solids and prints.”

That’s no overstatement about the options, either: There are currently 23 (!!!) different colorways available to order on Amazon, ranging from basic black to vibrant red to silver sequin to blue velvet to soft sage. It is well reviewed too, with a 4+ star rating and over 8000 reviews. The biggest qualm people seem to have with it is that it can wrinkle easily, so keep that in mind if wrinkle resistance is a high priority for you

    Best oversize: Universal Standard

two models in a black pinstripe blazer

One of the most important aspects of finding the perfect oversized blazer is the ability to size up. This might seem obvious and easy if you are on the lower end of the women’s size range, with lots of sizes above you and viral brands like Frankie Shop offering pre-oversized blazers, but if you are closer to the top end of a brand’s size range, you might not be able to get the same effect. So my favorite brand for oversized options is a brand with one of the most inclusive size ranges on the market: Universal Standard.

The Pinstripe Blazer is also part of Universal Standard’s unique Fit Liberty program, which allows no-fee size swaps within a year of purchase on select styles (look for the blue Fit Liberty badge on the product page to see if an item qualifies). That program also takes the stress out of figuring out your size, as you can always swap it out if you realize another size would fit you better.

    Best double breasted: Sezane

    two models in Sezane blazers

French labels have become the worst-kept secret over the last few years, with their charming Parisian interpretation of classic styles taking over fashion feeds. Without knowing otherwise, you might think this is a heritage label that has suddenly spiked in popularity, but Sezane was actually founded in 2013 as an online-first brand with thoroughly modern sensibilities, including a B-corp certification and extensive commitments to sustainability and supply chain transparency.

Sezane’s blazers are popular as a whole, but one style in particular was recommended the most: The double breasted Christie blazer. The style is lauded for being full-bust friendly and the type of item you reach for regularly. It also comes in a variety of colors and materials, including a blue cotton version that reads like a grown up take on the denim jacket, and a pretty sage wool blend. The sizing is generally true, if a little generous.

    Best trendy: Finesse

    blazer

If you are looking for of-the-moment trends and affordable designer-inspired pieces but don’t want to go the full-on fast fashion route, Finesse is an option you should know. With demand-based production, Finesse is trying to minimize the waste inherent in the fast fashion business model without sacrificing trendiness, and I think they are threading that needle deftly. Whenever I cannot find a specific trend in plus sizes, I check Finesse and almost always can find it there.

Finesse’s blazer selection is on the smaller end, variety-wise, but you can shop knowing that what they do have is current and cool, and at a very accessible price point.

The Zila Hourglass Blazer, for example, is a perfect take on the exaggerated proportions that are having a moment on the runways lately. I find that their styles run true to size too — just make sure to take a look at their size chart before ordering to confirm!

My one big tip for shopping Finesse is that you give yourself a big enough time cushion if you need a style for a specific event: Some of the shipping comes from overseas and can take up to 11 days if there are customs delays.

    Best machine washable: Ameliora

Two models in the same Ameliora blazer

Finding a good blazer is not the only thing that is challenging – you also have to figure out how to best maintain it. Regular dry cleaning is the obvious answer, but anyone who is working long hours can attest that keeping up with that is easier said than done. So finding a sharp, machine washable blazer is a win for saving both time and money.

That might be why the Zoe blazer by woman-owned NYC label Ameliora is such a big hit with customers, and it is their best-selling blazer style. Founder Adrienne Kronovet highlighted Ameliora’s “signature Wash & Wear Italian suiting fabric,” saying that it “sets a new standard for quality and comfort. It’s machine washable, 4-way stretch, breathable, wrinkle resistant, and non-pilling.” (The latter is particularly notable, as washable stretch suiting can be notoriously pilly.)

Customer reviews also rave about the fabrication, emphasizing its comfort and packability, saying it is perfect for packing light, and that they love that they can wear it everywhere and then just throw it in the washing machine. The streamlined silhouette, high buttons, and minimal mandarin collar make the style versatile, too — it can be worn as a shirt, a blazer, or a jacket.

    Best plus: Lane Bryant

two models in Lane Bryant blazer

This heritage plus size brand has been around for over a century, and I always like to say that they took that time to perfect their plus fit — something that is particularly apparent in their blazers.

I was recently at a conference where plus-size influencer Georgette Niles led a session on optimizing your closet, and an audience member asked where to find the best plus-size blazers. Niles immediately replied, “Lane Bryant,” and all the other plus size fashion influencers in the audience (myself included) chimed in with agreement as she explained how they really know how to design and cut for a fuller figure, and that their pieces last (something I can personally attest to, as I have Lane Bryant pieces that are almost a decade old in my wardrobe!)

Lane Bryant’s Perfect Drape blazer is their suiting staple, with a classic cut and shapely nipped-in waist. I am also a big fan of their Bryant Blazer, which has the aesthetic effect of a double-breasted blazer without the added bulk that can sometimes happen with the double layers in front of a true double-breasted jacket. Many styles also have thoughtful details like hidden hooks to keep everything lying properly on the body. With a size range up to 40 that runs true to size, it is also a great option for any plus size shoppers looking for more affordable blazer options, both casual and workwear.

    Best leather: Reformation Veda

    model in leather blazer

There’s just something about a good leather blazer that is almost transformative. You put it on and instantly feel cooler. It can give any outfit a bit of edge, and is a great way to add a fun twist to an otherwise basic look. But all leather blazers are not created equal, so getting one that will wear well and only get better with time just makes sense if you are investing in a genuine leather piece.

My top recommendation for leather jackets in general is always Veda, a cool woman owned NYC label that makes the most stunning pieces, with dreamy nappa leather featuring prominently in their selection. I have (and adore) their cropped Baby Jane Moto jacket in that same leather, and I get compliments and people pretty much petting the butter soft leather whenever I wear it. So if I was buying myself a leather blazer, this nappa leather option from Veda would be it. It is available in both straight and plus sizes at Reformation, which also provides details about the sourcing of the leather, something I really appreciate.

  • I tested the edgy basics brand that NYC cool girls rely on for their uniforms — I get why it’s so popular

When you buy through our links, Business Insider may earn an affiliate commission. Learn more

Left: The author taking a selfie in a white T-shirt
Right: Model in Marcella black T-shirt and jeans
The edgy, minimalist designs from Marcella feature cut-outs, asymmetrical touches, and lots of black.

Take a peek in my closet and you’ll notice there aren’t a lot of flashy colors and patterns or trendy pieces — it primarily consists of neutral basics. This doesn’t just reflect my personal style — it’s also a strategic approach to building a capsule wardrobe and a clothing collection that’ll last me for years to come. Ultimately, investing in pieces that I can mix and match and that won’t ever go out of style means I’ll get a lot more wear out of them.

When I discovered Marcella NYC while scrolling through social media, I couldn’t help but feel like the fashion brand was designed with that exact strategy in mind. The aesthetic is billed as “minimalism with an edge” — think East Coast “it girl” vibes without trying too hard (case in point: Olivia Rodrigo has been seen in the line).

There’s no denying that these pieces look amazing on my Instagram feed, but I wondered whether they could really deliver when it comes to quality, fit, and versatility. So, I decided to try a few popular items to find out.

Here are my honest thoughts on some of Marcella NYC’s bestselling pieces and why the brand makes some of the best women’s basics around.

    Leonie Top

Left: Model in Marcella black top
Right: The author in the same outfit

If there’s one thing I’m always on the lookout for, it’s the perfect black tee. Marcella NYC’s specialty is basics that are anything but basic — they always have an unexpected twist. That’s definitely true of the Leonie Top, which features a sharp diagonal cutout at one shoulder for a peek of skin.

The first thing I noticed about this tee is that the French organic cotton jersey it’s made out of is super soft. The dropped shoulders and boxy silhouette give this tee some modern appeal without taking away from its timelessness. I plan to wear this one with vintage-wash straight-leg jeans, leather leggings, and denim skirts.

One thing to note about this tee: It definitely has an intentionally oversized fit. I’m typically a size small, and I probably should’ve grabbed an XS. Whether you size down or not, though, just depends on personal preferences and how you plan to style the tee.

    Emmy Dress

Left: Model in Marcella white dress
Right: The author in the same outfit in black

Another item I can never resist is the little black dress — and this V-neck number strikes all the right chords. It’s effortless but elegant. It can be dressed up or down. And it has a universally flattering cut that hugs the smallest part of the waist while offering some forgiving flare from the hips down.

Again, the Emmy dress just feels expensive. The bodice is constructed with a structured European Ponte that boasts the perfect amount of stretch. The skirt, meanwhile, consists of lightweight European poplin cotton. The side zipper allows for easy on/off dressing, and I also appreciate the pockets for stashing my phone, lip gloss, and other essentials.

This dress fit true to size, and I’d argue it’s suitable for a wide variety of occasions. For more casual hangs, I’ll pair it with sheer ballet flats or leather slides and a denim jacket — but for date night, I’ll dress it up with metallic block heel sandals and statement earrings.

    Belmont Skirt

Left: Model in Marcella black skirt and black sweater
Right: The author in the same outfit with sheer top

I appreciate nothing more than a piece of clothing that does double duty — because it saves valuable space in my wardrobe (and my suitcase when I’m traveling). Not only that, but I can feel good investing in these types of pieces knowing I’ll get double the wear out of them.

That’s where the Belmont skirt comes in. Because it’s thoughtfully designed with a foldover waistband and the perfect midi-long length, it can be worn both as a high-rise maxi skirt and as a midi strapless tube dress. The short slit is meant to be worn at the back, but I found that I could play around with the placement and position it front and center or even angled to the side of my leg.

The Belmont couldn’t possibly be more comfortable — it’s made with lightweight, breathable European French terry with a touch of elastane for stretchability. This is the kind of piece I can wear year-round, too: during the warmer seasons, I’ll pair it with a cropped concert tee, and come fall and winter, I’ll layer on a chunky sweater and some Chelsea boots.

    Felix Top

Left: Model in Marcella white top with back cutout
Right: The author in the same outfit, facing forward

I couldn’t resist snagging another one of Marcella NYC’s basics with a twist — and while the Felix top may look a simple crewneck tee in the front, it has a flirty crossover cutout design in the back. The Felix is made with the same ultra-soft 100% organic French cotton jersey as the Leonie and has a similarly slouchy fit. So, again, I’d advise sizing down if you want this to hang closer to the body. Pro tip: I also like knotting the extra fabric in the front to make this more of a cropped, fitted tee.

I’ve been pairing the Felix with faded, distressed black wash jeans and floaty knee-length skirts, but it’s also a great layering tee under a blazer or cardigan.

    Celeste Mules

Left: Model in black Marcella mules with a kitten heel
Right: The author in the same mules in blue

Neglecting to mention Marcella NYC’s shoes would be a cruel and unusual act of gatekeeping. The line features everything from chunky leather loafers and pointy mary-jane flats to strappy heeled sandals in vibrant hues and lace-up sneaker boots. But it was the chic Celeste Mules that instantly caught my eye. Mules have been having a major moment in recent months, and it’s not all that surprising — they have the coverage of a close-toed shoe with the convenient slip-on style of a sandal, offering the best of both worlds and making them the perfect shoe for transitional seasons.

The Celeste, like many of Marcella NYC’s other shoes, is handcrafted from 100% Italian leather. The pointed toe has a visual slimming effect on my foot, and the modest 1-inch kitten heel is super reasonable for day to day wear. I love that these shoes came with a dust cloth for storage and a replacement pair of heel caps to pop on for the sake of longevity (especially since I plan on wearing out these heels pretty quickly).

Very often, I find that pointy shoes feel suffocating on my wide feet — but that definitely wasn’t the case here. The Celeste is among the most comfortable heels I own, and I was able to walk around in all day long with no aching, blisters, or other issues.

While these mules come in neutral go-with-anything shades like black and cream, I opted for the dreamy Santorini blue, which is surprisingly versatile. These add a fun pop of color to an understated fit, like a white tee and jeans, or a black cotton sundress.

    About Marcella NYC

    three models wearing Marcella NYC

Marcella NYC has a charming backstory. The cofounders, a husband and wife team, developed the idea for the line on their first date in NYC. Cofounder and creative director Siyana Huszar says fashion has always been in her DNA: her grandmother, Marcella — namesake for the brand — was a prominent designer in Bulgaria. After coming to the U.S. to pursue a corporate career, she realized she couldn’t find clothing that truly reflected the sophisticated, modern New Yorker she aspired to be.

“That’s when it hit me: my love for fashion and my personal frustration weren’t just random — together, they were the perfect recipe for something bigger,” she told Business Insider.

What sets Marcella NYC apart from other women’s basics clothing brands is the dedication to both sustainability and social impact. The company uses ethical production practices, predominantly employs female production teams, sources only sustainable materials, and uses biodegradable packaging. Thanks to their leaner production process (which entails regularly restocking), they sell over 98% of what they make, which means less waste and a smaller eco-footprint. The company has also partnered with the global NGO CAMFED to support marginalized girls in Africa receiving a good education. Fashion with a cause? We love to see it.

  • The best plus size underwear of 2024, according to experts

When you buy through our links, Business Insider may earn an affiliate commission. Learn more

Three models wearing plus size underwear on a pink background.

As someone who’s passionate about stylish plus size clothing, I can tell you that a flattering fit begins with the right pair of underwear. The most comfortable pairs won’t roll down your stomach, dig into your skin, or feel like total granny panties. To find the best plus size underwear, I spoke to designers, stylists, models, and fellow fat folks on which brands are getting it right.

One pair I’ve worn over the last two years is the Parade Dream Fit High Rise Boyshort. And while I love the full-coverage biker short look, I’m also collecting more lingerie pieces like the Curvy Couture Allover Lace High Cut Thong. I usually avoid thongs, but I appreciate its true-to-size fit and a cotton-lined gusset that keeps my private area protected.

Below are more of our favorite inclusively sized women’s underwear, which we love for their comfort, shapely cuts, and hygienic designs.

Best affordable briefs: Wirarpa Cotton High Waisted Briefs

Fuschia underwear and a black sports bra on model against a pink background

Body Neutral content creator Lindsey Baker started wearing these Amazon undies after her search for an affordable (and better fit) alternative to major brands on the market.

“[Wirarpa’s] high-waisted briefs give me the best coverage for my apron belly and stay put no matter what activity I’m doing,” says Baker. The extra thick stretch band fits snugly on the stomach to avoid fabric rolling down, and the cotton fabric is breathable and comfortable for a full-coverage fit that moves with your body.

Best cotton briefs: Slick Chicks Highwaist Panty with Velcro Fasteners

A waist height view of a model wearing black Velcro underwear.

Inclusive adaptive-wear brand Slick Chicks proves that the industry could use more underwear innovation like theirs. The breathable cotton lining of these bottoms protects you from leaks, and the Velcro fasteners make self-dressing or dressing with assistance easier.

Best moisture-wicking briefs: Goddess Keira Full Coverage Briefs

Blue underwear and bra on model against a pink background.

Long live the granny panty — after all, many of the plus-size shoppers we interviewed for this guide agreed that full-coverage briefs are the way to go. These stretchy, silky bottoms from Goddess offer the comfort of a granny panty without the loose fit. Its ultra-soft microfiber material moves with you and absorbs moisture. With a vintage-inspired silhouette, you can embrace this traditional style with its matching Goddess Keira Satin Side Support Bra.

Best cheeky briefs: Cacique Comfort Bliss Cheeky Panty

Red underwear and bra on model against a pink background.

These super soft briefs sit high around the waist and hips, but still offer a subtle booty moment from their cheeky cut. They’re perfect if you don’t necessarily want to wear a thong but still want less coverage in the rear.

Best gender neutral briefs: TomboyX Iconic Briefs

Gray underwear on model against a pink background.

You can wear any underwear regardless of your gender. However, if you’re looking for a brief that takes into consideration transitioning and multiple genitalia at once, TomboyX should be on your radar. Each product from the brand is fit-tested on diverse bodies that inform their tailoring. These briefs are designed for breathable movement and offer extra space in the gusset.

Read more about this inclusive brand (including the fit on different body types) in our full TomboyX review.

Best brief multipack: Hanes Just My Size Women’s Cotton Brief Underwear

Assorted multicolored women's underwear on a pink background.

Whenever in doubt, Hanes cotton underwear gets the job done. This bundle is one of my favorites that I’ve been wearing (and repurchasing) for over 10 years. On my first day of college, I awkwardly realized that I didn’t pack enough underwear and quickly ordered a pack of these from Amazon. Thankfully, they arrived before I even started classes. Make sure you order your true size to keep the band from rolling down.

Best affordable thong: Auden Seamless Pull-On Thong

A tan thong and white bra on model against a purple background.

Love them or hate them, thongs are a style of underwear that almost every woman has worn at least once (though I’m a big proponent for the thongs on all genders). This seamless thong from Target’s brand Auden is comfortably stretchy and affordable to boot. Your cheeks will be on full display, but you don’t have to fear thin material digging into your body with the full-coverage design in the waistband.

Best lace thong: Curvy Couture Allover Lace High Cut Thong

Pink underwear and bra on model on a purple background.

Stylist Monet Maxwell recommends Curvy Couture underwear for its comfort and fit. The soft lace on this thong is semi-sheer for modest coverage in the right places, with glimpses of skin throughout. Cotton lines the gusset for the health of your privates and the breathable material offers a seamless look for a smooth base. I wore this thong under my Gia/IRL Gabrielle Maxi in Black during NYFW for that “no underwear” look without actually going commando, and they stayed up all day.

Best cotton thong: Snag Tights Thong

A red thong and black bra on model against a purple background.

Fat fashion digital creators Hannah Ogilvie and Lindsey Baker both recommend Snag Tights’ underwear for its inclusive size range and their focus on body positivity among fat and differently abled people. This thong offers ample coverage in the front with a snug high-waisted fit to minimize fabric rolling down the stomach. Consider sizing yourself based on waist and hip measurements to find the best fit.

Best moisture-wicking thong: Harper Wilde Bliss Thong

Black underwear and bra on model against a purple background.

Being fat in the summertime usually means sweaty body parts, folds, and chafing — it’s the reality of having a big body. That’s why you need undies that can keep up with you and curb moisture without irritating your private areas. This thong is able to stretch to fit around large stomachs and behinds without bunching up, and its cotton-lined gusset offers more moisture-wicking breathability.

Best mesh: Adore Me Rosa Solo Thong Plus

A white tank and floral lace thong on model against a purple background.

Move over lace — mesh is taking over as the sexiest lingerie option. The stretchy fabric on this thong keeps it secured on your hips without rubbing uncomfortably against the skin. Consider sizing down, as the fit skews slightly larger with the 4X fitting a 28W in bottoms.

For more romantic pairs like this one, see our guide to the best places to buy plus-size lingerie.

Best thong multipack: Amazon Essentials Pack of 6 Thongs

Assorted black and beige thongs on a purple background.

As a skeptic of plus-size fashion on Amazon, I was pleasantly surprised by the comfort and coverage of these soft and stretchy no-show thongs from the Amazon Essential collection. Its buttery material is cut to rest on the low hip for ample coverage in the gusset area. If you have a wide-set stomach or apron belly, consider sizing up to avoid material rolling down the stomach.

Best affordable bikini: Parade Silky Mesh High Rise Cheeky

A multicolor lingerie set on model against a blue background.

Parade entered the underwear scene in 2019 (under the tutelage of founder and former CEO Cami Téllez) to fill a gap in the size exclusive intimates market, and it’s become a staple in many fat folks’ underwear drawer ever since. I keep these high-rise cheeky panties in heavy rotation and always pick up a pair during sales because they offer decent coverage in the gusset area and give the illusion of a bigger bottom.

Granted, I’ve found Parade can be hit or miss for its vanity sizing and slow-to-develop size extensions. Ultimately though, their comfortable materials, cute styles, and low prices keep plus size shoppers like content creator Emmy Zorbitz and myself coming back for more.

Best seamless bikini: Knix Zones+ Ultra Leakproof Bikini

A pink bra and underwear on model against a blue background.

Knix is known for its super absorbent period panties. These ultra leakproof bikini undies have become my favorite around “that” time of the month when blood and sweat become a non-stop issue. Its material molds comfortably on the body and the waistband rests above the hip for a secure seamless base.

Fat Body Pro Tip: Whether you have hyperhidrosis or you’re sweaty from humid weather, content creator Abby Bible advises that period panties are ideal for any time you need extra moisture control in the crotch area.

Best stretchy bikini: Universal Standard UltimateS Mid Rise Bikini

A black tank and beige underwear on model against a blue background.

Author Laura Delarato sings the praise of inclusive fashion brand Universal Standard, highlighting their Derjon Trench Coat and the UltimateS Full Coverage High Rise Briefs.

Taking a page from her book, I tried these mid-rise bikini panties for a more cheeky cut that still offered ample coverage in the gusset while stretching with every move of my body. The modal material is extra soft and comfortable combined with the cotton and elastane blend for the best stretchy plus size underwear that’s both breathable and moisture-wicking.

Best color variety: Women’s Stretch Cotton Bikini

Assorted multicolor women's underwear on a blue background.

MeUndies makes it easy to have a regular influx of your favorite characters in your top drawer with its subscription model and bundle offers. The cotton stretch bikini bottoms are designed with a no-roll elastic waistband that stays secure yet flexible to rest on large stomachs and bottoms. Each pair is made with MicroModal and elastane for a soft and breathable texture. If you have excess skin and fat around the lower abdomen, otherwise known as a panniculus or “FUPA,” consider sizing up for proper coverage.

Best luxury bikini: SKIMS Ultrafine Mesh Bikini

A brown strapless bra and brown underwear on model against a blue background.

SKIMS still has work to do regarding extended-size offerings and gusset coverage. However, many fat shoppers and size influencers that we spoke to (including Bible) agreed that they gravitate towards this brand for a trendy luxurious option.

This mesh bikini brief fits true to size and offers medium coverage with a 100% cotton gusset for the security and health of your private parts. Complete the sexy sheer look with the plus size-friendly  Ultra Fine Mesh Scoop Bra.

Best bikini multipack: Amazon Essentials Cotton Bikini Brief

Six pairs of multicolored women's briefs against a blue background.

Another win for Amazon plus size underwear. These bikini briefs have a classic fit and inexpensive price. I like how the elastic doesn’t dig into my skin and the cotton material lasts with each wash — no matter how long I keep these durable undies in rotation.

Best affordable boyshorts: Auden Seamless Boy Shorts

Gray boyshorts and a black crop top on model against an orange background.

Over a dozen people in a Reddit thread discussion for plus-size shoppers called out these seamless boy shorts from Target’s brand, Auden. This comfortable and affordable pair are easily the best budget plus-size underwear for their stretchy material that doesn’t roll down your stomach. If you prefer a snug fit, I recommend sizing down since the 4X were slightly large on a US 28-30 bottom.

Best cotton boyshorts: Comfort Choice Cotton Boyshort

Three cotton boyshorts against an orange background.

Whether you’re looking for a simple pair of boyshorts for lounging around the house or you need a durable pair of undies for a 6X+ body, this multipack is for you. Each pack features three 100% cotton boyshorts with 3-inch inseams — so you don’t have to worry about thigh chafing or tight material constricting your stomach. Its waistband is made with Spandex for a stretchy and secure fit.

Best high-waisted boyshorts: Parade Dream Fit High Rise Boyshort

A black bra and lilac mesh underwear on model against an orange background.

Zorbitz says some of her favorite plus size underwear comes from Parade. In particular, she likes their high-rise boyshorts the best. They fit snugly like a pair of biker shorts with the breathability of mesh and cotton.

“They’re the perfect combo of coverage and comfort — I have both the 3X and 4X and don’t see a huge difference in the sizing,” says Zorbitz. However, if you have a wide-set stomach and a large butt, you should size up to avoid the band rolling down.

Best lace boyshort: Hanky Panky Plus Size Signature Lace Boyshort

Black lace bra and boyshorts on model against an orange background.

Hanky Panky is a popular intimate brand that celebrities like Rihanna and Cameron Diaz swear by, but it’s often forgotten in the plus size community. The largest size is a bit oversized and fits a 24W-26W bottom, so there’s wiggle room for any fat shoppers who usually shop a 4XL. And yes, this is me officially begging Hanky Panky to expand their sizing more so I can wear these lacy options even when I’m bloating or in between sizes. Its lacy material stays up on the body while creating a confidence-boosting effect.

Best boyshorts for exercise: American Eagle AEO 6″ Temp Tech Boxer Brief

Black boxer briefs against an orange background.

Boyshorts are often described as a “women’s boxer,” but their long inseams can suit anyone dressing for the gym. These temperature regulating boxer briefs from American Eagle have an interior pouch that offers space for additional jockstrap packing.

Lauren Herndon reaches for these as their everyday boxer brief with a cooling material that feels like a second skin. “Besides the comfort aspect, these boxer briefs also have an anti-roll waistband which keeps them from sliding down and in place while sitting & standing,” says Herndon.

Best boyshort multipack: Woxer Women’s Boxer Briefs

Black boxers and a white tank on model against an orange background.

Woxer designed these boxer briefs for women with a shorter inseam than traditional male boxers to eliminate gapping in the gusset. The ultra-soft modal gives a soft, silk-like feel without chafing or digging into the skin. While the bottoms are snug for a secure fit, the waistband is loose-fitting to support a lot of movement — whether you’re working out, sleeping, or running errands.

Best affordable hipster: Cacique Intimates Cotton Hipster Panty

Green underwear and a white bra on model against a green background.

Bible says that she mostly shops at Lane Bryant for underwear. “I know that their underwear is going to fit me comfortably and cover all the things I want to be covered,” she says, despite the plain designs leaving something to be desired. These hipster panties offer full coverage while keeping the sexy look of a high-leg cut.

Best cotton hipster: Calvin Klein Modern Cotton Plus Hipster

A black bra and black underwear on model against a green background.

Similarly to her Snag Tights collection, content creator Ogilvie has an underwear drawer filled with plus size Calvin Klein underwear. “I was honestly so surprised to see Calvin Klein catered to plus sizes with their iconic underwear, and I knew I had to try it to feel like a proper ‘It Girl’,” she says. These panties protect private areas with a full gusset and rear coverage.

Best stretchy hipster: B-Smooth Seamless Hi-Cut Panty

Black underwear on model against a green background.

Emma Zac, founder of size-inclusive vintage boutique Berriez, goes hard for her underwear and swears by these hi-cut panties from Wacoal, which she’s been wearing for eight years. After trying them for myself, I can confirm that these seamless undies fit securely, and they don’t show when paired with tight clothing. Consider sizing up if you have a wide-set stomach or apron-belly that needs extra coverage.

Best lace hipster: Adore Me Diara Hipster Panty

A red bra and red underwear on model against a green background.

In 2022, AdoreMe was purchased by Victoria’s Secret & Co, proving that plus-size bodies are a valuable demographic for lingerie. Lace appliques adorn the front of this hipster underwear for a traditional sexy look upgraded with cheeky mesh paneling. Its thin lightweight material rests on the lower hip with minimal coverage in the gusset, however, those with large FUPAs should consider sizing up to avoid over-revealing.

Best hipsters for sleep: Torrid Leakproof Cotton Mid Rise Hipster Panty

Teal underwear and white tank top on model against a green background.

Whether you’re a sweaty sleeper or prone to waking up with a surprise period, you’ll want to pick up a few pairs of these leakproof hipster panties for bedtime. The mid-rise and medium-coverage bottoms are made from naturally absorbent cotton. You can twist and turn all night and they’ll stay put.

Best hipster multipack: EBY 3-Pack Hipster Briefs

Black hipster underwear on model against a green background.

This multipack of plus size hipsters have a chic, seamless look that’s perfect for any outfit that calls for a smooth base. They’re soft and stretchy with a cotton-lined gusset added for protection of your private areas.

FAQs on the best plus size underwear

How do I choose the right size?

As a fat person, shopping is already a challenge with availability issues, but another main concern is the discrepancy in size guides. Knowing your exact waist and hip size measurements will make it easier to translate your needs to brands’ size guides. If you don’t have your exact measurements, you can base your “proper fit” on the underwear you currently own that fits the best.

Another way to choose the right fit is by selecting underwear from brands that cater to fat bodies. “It is key to fit on a live model who is representative of the body type that the product is aimed at,” says Liesl Goodman, Elomi and Goddess designer.

What are the best materials for underwear?

Vaginal hygiene and genitalia health should always be front of mind when selecting underwear regardless of size. One key way to keep your body health in mind is with underwear made from cotton, specific to the gusset lining where your private parts rest. Krista Molinaro, Senior Merchant at Bare Necessities recommends cotton above all. “It’s breathable and good for your downstairs health because it keeps you comfortable and cool,” says Molinaro.

Nylon, Spandex, and Modal are other commonly used fabrics for underwear that many plus size underwear brands gravitate towards for softness and stretch. “Nylon is a breathable, super soft, second-skin synthetic. It comfortably molds to your body while offering a bit of stretch,” adds Molinaro.

What’s the best plus size underwear that won’t roll down?

Every fat person knows the struggle of feeling their underwear slowly roll down the stomach, only to bunch up and fall into whatever bottoms you’re wearing.  Certain styles with less material around the waistband like hipsters, thongs, and bikinis are usually prone to rolling down the stomach. Instead choose high-rise underwear that’s true to size or slightly sized up to guarantee a secure fit.

What underwear cut is best for a big stomach?

If you have a wide-set stomach that usually calls for more material, look towards high-cut or high-waisted underwear that keep in mind your body rolls, folds, and crevices. Parade’s Silky Mesh High Rise Cheeky underwear is a prime example from this list that’s designed to fit across big stomachs and large backsides.
