Six people have been arrested for altering California’s famous “Hollywood” sign to read “HollyBoob.”
A trip with the letter “B” was dropped on “W”, while a white line was placed across “D” to make it look like “B”.
The Los Angeles Times reports that five men and a woman were seen on video surveillance at about 1:30 p.m. When a police helicopter arrived, they could see the group retreating from the area near the well-known Mulholland Drive.
Officers met him at the bottom and his identity has not yet been announced.
SURPRISING SECRETS BEHIND THE HOLLYWOOD SIGN
“The incident could not be classified as vandalism because the sign was not damaged,” said Capt. Steve Lurie of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), according to the Hollywood Area Commander, Los Iblis.
He said the six would be released on corruption charges.
According to the deadline, one of the detainees told an officer that the holiday was an attempt to raise awareness about breast cancer.
In addition, the store reports that police presence will be increased for several days and possibly weeks due to the incident.
ANOTHER HOLLYWOOD SIGN? REPORT SAYS SECOND LANDMARK COULD STEM TOURIST TRAFFIC
The sign is inaccessible to the public, although visitors can visit nearby Griffith Park. The sign is maintained by a group called the Hollywood Sign Trust.
A spokesman for the trust told the LA Times that the LAPD’s rapid response was appreciated.
Mark Panatier, chairman of the trust, said it was wrong to change the logo regardless, adding: “It is unfortunate that such an important image for the city of LA is not being appreciated.”
“It’s an image that diminishes the importance of Hollywood, not just for the city of LA but for the world,” he said. “It needs to be maintained, it doesn’t need to be treated.”
In 2017, the sign was famously altered to read “Hollyweed” when tarps were used to alter both “O” letters” to “E.”
