Adobe Names Anil Chakravarthy as New CEO
Adobe has appointed Anil Chakravarthy, head of its customer experience unit, as its new CEO to steer the creative software giant through a turbulent period of intense generative AI competition.

Adobe has promoted Anil Chakravarthy, the president of its customer experience orchestration business, to the role of chief executive officer. The appointment concludes a six-month search to find a successor for outgoing CEO Shantanu Narayen, who announced in March that he would step down. Narayen will remain with the company as chairman and will initially work in tandem with Chakravarthy during the leadership transition.
The decision brings unexpected executive shifts. Many industry observers anticipated that David Wadhwani, Adobe's president of creativity and productivity, would secure the top job. Wadhwani oversaw the digital media business segment, which generates approximately three-quarters of Adobe's total revenue. Following the decision, Wadhwani announced his departure from the company on LinkedIn. Meanwhile, Chakravarthy steps up after previously managing the development of key products such as Adobe CX Enterprise, GenStudio, Brand Visibility, and the CX Enterprise Coworker tool.
For creative professionals and enterprise practitioners, this leadership change comes at a critical juncture. Adobe faces significant pressure as rapid advancements in generative artificial intelligence allow workers to lay out content and manipulate photos without relying on traditional Adobe software. This shift has contributed to a dramatic tumble in Adobe's stock price over the past few years. By placing a customer experience leader at the helm rather than a traditional creative tools executive, Adobe appears to be pivoting its strategy. Practitioners can likely expect a heavier integration of enterprise-focused AI orchestration and customer experience tools as the company fights to maintain its dominance against emerging AI-native design platforms.
