OpenAI prepares Aeon AI agent to challenge rivals
OpenAI is rumored to debut its Aeon AI agent at its 2026 DevDay, aiming to reclaim its lead from established rivals like Meta's Muse and Google's Gemini Spark.
At its upcoming 2026 DevDay event, OpenAI is expected to unveil a continuously running AI agent code-named Aeon. The launch represents a critical attempt by the company to catch up in the consumer-facing agent market, where it has lagged behind competitors. Aeon will reportedly be powered by OpenAI's upcoming frontier model, GPT-6 Astra, which company president Greg Brockman recently hyped, stating that "we are now in the AGI era" during a press briefing.
The market OpenAI is entering is already highly competitive. Meanwhile, Google's Gemini Spark operates 24/7 with over 30 external integration partners, including Uber, Spotify, and Dropbox.
