Cognition Hits $48B Valuation on Surging Devin Revenue
AI software engineering startup Cognition has raised over $2 billion at a $48 billion valuation, proving that independent agent platforms can command massive premiums alongside frontier labs.
Cognition, the creator of the autonomous AI coder Devin, has secured a Series E funding round of more than $2 billion, propelling its valuation to $48 billion. Led by Andreessen Horowitz and Accel, the round also drew participation from NVIDIA, Founders Fund, General Catalyst, Avenir, and over three dozen other firms. This massive valuation is backed by rapid financial growth, with Cognition's run-rate revenue surging from $492 million in May to nearly $900 million today. This represents an 80% increase in just four months, following a year where annual recurring revenue grew from approximately $73 million to nearly $1 billion.
The company's valuation has climbed at an extraordinary pace, rising from $350 million in early 2024 to $2 billion in April 2024, $4 billion in March 2025, $10.2 billion in September 2025, and $26 billion in May 2026 before reaching its current $48 billion mark. To support its expanding enterprise deployments, Cognition has opened six new global offices in Washington D.C., Tokyo, Singapore, London, São Paulo, and Madrid, adding to its existing hubs in San Francisco, New York, and Austin. Its customer roster now includes major organizations such as NVIDIA, GE Aerospace, Citi, Mercedes-Benz, Goldman Sachs, Modal, and the U.S. Army and Navy.
For software development teams, Devin is transitioning from a reactive, chat-based assistant into a proactive, event-driven platform. This shift is driven by three new capabilities: Devin Automations, which monitors platforms like Slack, GitHub, and Linear to trigger tasks autonomously; Devin Auto-Triage, which investigates system incidents and suggests fixes; and Devin Security Swarm, which scans codebases for complex exploits. Additionally, Cognition's July 2025 acquisition of the AI coding startup Windsurf has integrated a synchronous IDE layer with Devin's asynchronous agent capabilities, allowing developers to work alongside agents in a unified environment rather than relying on isolated chat interfaces.
